We spent a lot of money educating our son at an Ivy college in the US. Now after getting an MBA he says he wants to work in an NGO. His starting salary is 20,000 rupees a month. What are his prospects in the NGO sector?

Ans: I understand that it might not be the career path that you had envisioned, but you also need to understand that if your son is passionate about the mission and values of the NGO he has chosen to work for, he may find fulfillment and satisfaction in his work beyond financial rewards.

Also, while starting salaries in the NGO sector may be lower compared to corporate or private sector roles, there can be opportunities for growth and advancement over time. Not to mention that working in the NGO sector can offer opportunities for your son to develop a diverse range of skills, including project management, fundraising, advocacy, community development, and cross-cultural communication. These skills can be valuable assets in his future career, whether within the NGO sector or in other fields.

He would be manage a a better balance between his professional and personal lives and the sense of fulfillment that comes from making a positive difference in the world will be unparalleled.
