Ans: Let him do what he is interested in. If he is not interested in IT or any specific area then it makes sense to do an MBA. An MBA from top B school could open up a lot of opportunities.

My daughter is doing her BSc Honours in Physics from Delhi University. She is an ace student but due to sickness, she got backlogs in 3 subjects in 5th semester. Shes devastated and gone into depression as this is the first time ever she's has got F grade in her academic life. Will she get admission in Msc Physics? In India or abroad?? Recently DU has sent letters to her college stating that there could be 80% chance of 4th year added for BSc Honours. Will this help. Also, will her whole 1 year waste as if the 4th year extension is not added then she will hv to give exam on coming December to clear the backlogs wid juniors. Will all this affect her admission in pg? Will she get admission in abroad universities??

Ans: Failure is part of life and it is important to face failures else you cannot cope up with failures when it comes. Having backlogs is not a big thing. If she cannot give her backlog now but has to wait for next year then she can think of doing her 4th year in the college and simultaneously clear her backlog. But if she can clear her backlog and get admission to MSc then she can not do her 4th year and instead try get admission to post graduate course.

Ans: If you are sure you want to get into a good MBA college, then focus on pgcet. Also can write other management entrance exams like CAT, CMAT, MAT, ATMA, etc.

Ans: CAT is a good option as there are many colleges that accept CAT. It is definitely possible for a student from tier 3 institute to get into top Management college as long as you are able to crack the written test and are able to do well in the interview.

Ans: There are quite a few companies who take freshers, so I don't think that should be a problem in your decision. As a fresher you may have to score a little extra as compared to working professional (as they get marks for work ex) to get an interview call from college. But every year there are many freshers who make it to top B schools.

Hello Career Gurus, I have a PGDBM which is pretty dated back to the year 2006. I find that the entire canvas has changed with the digital revolution making me somewhat out of place. Although, i managed to traverse successfully career-wise and secured management role but sometimes I face self-doubt whether I would be able ro sustain myself in this back-biting and nasty politics driven corporate world. I have jettisoned plans several times to go fof masters into enterpreneural management or data analytics. I am worried about the next step. Should I take a sabbatical considering that I have the usual middle-class constraints spelled out as obligation to family esp. ageing parents with my better-half playing stalemate on her commitment towards helping me and financial liabilities as well. Ans: You can always do part time courses along with your job and then scout for relevant jobs. A lot of certificate courses are available. Even top B schools do conduct short term management courses which is another option to look out for. Leaving your job is definitely not recommended. About taking sabbatical, it will depend on how will it affect your promotion in your company.

Third make a written plan as to how you plan to prepare for the CAT syllabus.

Ans: Start your own coaching institute if you are interested in teaching. If you are interested in Management or Finance you can do CFA / MBA. MBA from top institute would obviously be a better choice as compared to CFA, but CFA would be a better choice as compared to doing MBA from tier 3 institute. If you are ready to leave your job and do MBA then prepare for the entrance exams. If you are unwilling to leave your job then can do CFA which you can do without leaving your current job for now. But later you would have to find a relevant job to get the CFA degree.

Ans: You can do MBA after doing Bachelors in any field. So it is possible to do MBA after Bachelor of Data Science course. If you are good in Math then you should also be good at Data Science. I don't see a problem in following what your parent are recommending unless your have a strong interest in some other field.

Ans: My recommendation would be to take up a job and simultaneously prepare for MBA entrance exams. It is possible to prepare for the entrance exams by devoting 2 to 3 hours on a regular basis for preparation.

Hi, I am a law graduate having practice of 20+ years in Delhi, and want to do management degree(MBA). But the problem is with marks obtained in my graduation 49.6% while all the institutions require at least 50%. Is there any option to do?

Ans: Unfortunately there as per the government requirement, there are not many colleges that provide MBA if you have less than 50% in graduation. But there would be college level courses that are not affiliated to university where you can do PGDM without 50% criteria. OR can also look at doing distance MBA from foreign university.

Ans: JJ School of Applied Arts is supposed to be one of the best schools for Applied Arts in Mumbai. There there are others like Rachana which are good. Can check out the courses available in these institutes. If she is interested in Fashion she can look at option of NIFT in Mumbai.

Which branch is in good demand now and which will suit for me. I have got 10 years experience in Rural development dept and 25 yrs experience in the Forest dept in interior tribal areas and wild life Sanctuaries.After doing MBA I want to share my experience to the corporate companies .pl guide me.

Ans: There are options in some colleges to do Rural Management. IRMA is the best college for Rural Management. There is also a college called Indian Institute of Forest Management in Madhya Pradesh. There are other private colleges that give MBA Rural Management including Welingkar, etc.

Ans: Yes, can do MBA in general management. There is no restriction in what field you want to do MBA as long as you are interested in it. So a student from Arts - Literature background can do MBA in Finance, so definitely a Mech Engg graduate can do a General MBA.

Is online Mba valid and good?

Ans: Online MBA does not provide placements. So you will have to look out for a job on your own. But companies prefer regular MBA over online MBA which will make getting job difficult. Online MBA could help if you already have a good relevant work experience or if you are looking at promotion in your company where the company does give preference to education while giving the promotion (there are quite a few companies who do that).

Ans: I believe so yes. I have had quite a few students who after not being able to clear their CA exams when on to do an MBA and landed up with good jobs. Example - a student who was trying for 3 years for CA, gave up and wrote CAT got into TAPMI and managed to get a job at Deloitte post his MBA. He was happy with his job. I have also had students who gave up doing CA and managed to get into top colleges including top IIMs like IIM ABC.
