Hello Dr Nidhi! I'm 58 year female having sciatica, lumber spondylosis and osteoporosis. After COVID I lost about 10-12 kgs of weight. Dr. Suggested me to take injection for my osteoporosis. I took one infusion one year back, but no improvement. I had a prolonged fever with body ache as a side effect. I'm doing low impact exercises and undergoing physiotherapy (for 15-20 days) after every 3 months. I was supposed to take another dose of injection but I could not make up my mind in view of its side effects. Should I continue with this physiotherapy practice or go for another infusion? I can't do weight bearing exercises because of my very low weight/ muscle mass. How to increase weight. Kindly suggest/advice how to cope with the situation.
Ans: Hello Anonymous,
It will be very good for you to first consult a good nutritionist as nutrition can play a vital role in overall bone, muscle and nerve health. They will advice you various kinds of seeds, nuts, wheatgrass/moringa/protien powder etc to be taken in the right way at the right time. That should start helping you increase weight/bone density/muscle mass.
Along with this low impact exercises using your own body weight or mild resistance with therabands is advisable.
You should also learn certain breathing techniques from a yoga practitioner.
With the above combination of diet, exercises, breath-work and good periods of sleep/rest you should start recovering.
For the sciatica and lumbar spondylosis definitely physiotherapy can help a lot.
All the best!

Knee Replacement- My doctor has advised me total knee replacement in right knee after examining X ray, as I am suffering from pain in right knee for last 12 months. Whether I have any options to avoid it or better to do to live pain free life after operation. I am worried about side effects, if any. Thanks Ganesh Surana
Ans: Dear Mr. Surana,
Thank you for your query. If your doctor has recommended a total knee replacement, it is likely based on the severity of your condition as indicated by the X-ray and your ongoing pain. However, you may still explore conservative options before deciding on surgery. I suggest consulting a physiotherapist for a comprehensive rehabilitation program. Physiotherapy can help strengthen the muscles around the knee, improve joint stability, and potentially reduce pain.
That said, your age and weight also play an important role in determining the best course of action. If you are overweight, weight management can significantly reduce stress on the knee joint and alleviate symptoms. Lifestyle changes, such as a tailored exercise regimen and a healthy diet, can also be beneficial.

If conservative measures don’t provide sufficient relief, total knee replacement may be the best option for living a pain-free life. It’s natural to be concerned about side effects, but modern surgical techniques and post-operative care have made the procedure highly effective and safe. Discuss all your concerns with your doctor and physiotherapist to make an informed decision.
Wishing you the best,

Undergraduate (UG) degrees provide foundational knowledge, including how to conduct research. In postgraduate (PG) studies, you generally build on those basics. After completing your PG studies, you can engage in research, either full-time or by pursuing a PhD.

An MBBS degree is also just a basic qualification and is not the only gateway into the research field. You can conduct research in a variety of fields, including arts.

If you are particularly interested in human psychology, gather basic information on the topic and proceed accordingly. There are various aspects of human psychology, so consider which area you would like to specialize in and plan your path from there.
