my son is a us citizen and i have returned back to india when he is very young due to family issues... now he completed graduation in india.. and is interested to work in usa what are the opportunities that he can get to pursue further studies in usa with scholarships or assistance or get some help in settling there(unemployment benefits) as i cannot afford to sponsor him anymore

Ans: No issue. Being the citizen he will get the benefit and tuition fess will be very low as compared to other international students. I won't allow his talents to die. But don't send him for Masters, because now a days in Masters it is very difficult to get scholarship, that means tuition fees waive. Let him directly try for PH.D. Ph.D admission always comes with funding. You need to spend only for the air ticket. In Ph.d after two years if he wants to discontinue he can safely exit with an MS degree and please don't think of unemployment benefits. It's a negative thinking. Since he is an American Citizen by birth let him fly and inscribe his name in golden letters in the academic landscape of USA. I am always there to help him. No worries please. My son is working as research scholar in IIT but wants to pursue research in US what are the options to do that . He wants stipend fore that kindly guide
Ans: Hello Kavita,

To begin with, thank you for contacting us. Through pursuing research in the US, your son can acquire a fantastic chance to broaden his academic horizons, learn about modern research, and work with subject-matter experts. He could think about the following options:

1. Graduate Studies (Ph.D.): Applying for a Ph.D. program at a university seems to be one of the popular methods to pursue research in the US. Through these programs, students can earn stipends and tuition exemptions in exchange for research and teaching assistantships. Your son can submit an application to the graduate programs at his preferred universities.

2. Fellowships and Grants: For foreign students pursuing research in the US, multiple grants and fellowships are offered. Examples include The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, Fulbright Program, and several university-specific scholarships. Financial assistance viz., stipends and tuition coverage are offered through these programs.

3. Research Assistantships (RA): Research assistant roles are available in several research initiatives, labs, or departments. In this salaried position, your son will carry out particular research projects under a faculty member’s supervision.

4. Teaching Assistantships (TA): Teaching assistantships are similar to research assistantships, here students help the professors teach undergraduate courses while he is still pursuing his own research. This may also include a stipend and at times, tuition coverage.

5. Working in partnership with Professors: Your son might consider working together on research projects, if he has developed relationships with professors in the US. Getting invited for short research trips or even longer research stays could stem as a result.

6. Postdoctoral Jobs: Your son could think about applying for postdoctoral jobs if he finishes his Ph.D. in India and wishes to further his research in the US. These research positions are temporary enabling him to continue his research under the guidance of experienced researchers.

7. Centers and Institutes for Research: Researchers can enrol as visiting scholars or researchers at a number of US research institutes and centers. These jobs could offer stipends and access to cutting-edge facilities.

8. Academic Workshops and Meetings: Your son can engage with possible colleagues and look into research opportunities by attending conferences and seminars in the US that are pertinent to his academic field.

Your son should inquire about labs, universities and programs that match his research interests, get in touch with teachers/advisors he intends working with, submit a compelling Statement of Purpose, study proposal, and recommendation letters, appear for English language competency tests viz., IELTS or TOEFL as required by universities, and look into scholarships, fellowships, and assistantships that offer international students financial aid.

To make sure he finds the perfect match for his research interests and career prospects, your son should plan well in advance, begin early, and conduct extensive research on each possibility.

My son studing mbbs (fina year) at kalkata medical college, want to study in abroad (USA) , How is it possible with financial assistance?
Ans: Hello Naba,

To begin with, thank you for contacting us. I am happy to hear that your son is currently pursuing the final year of MBBS at Kolkata Medical College and wishes to further study in the USA. To answer your question first, I would like to tell you that although a promising opportunity, pursuing medicine overseas, specifically in the United States involves substantial monetary constraints. Nevertheless, remember that your son could seek financial aid from numerous sources. I would recommend that he looks into the available grants or scholarships provided by private organizations or universities that aim to assist international medical students. Furthermore, although typically needing a cosigner who is a citizen or permanent resident of the US, there are student loans that are designed exclusively for foreign students attending US universities. Your son could explore these as well. Not just that, he could also engage in on-campus part-time jobs, this can be an excellent way to defray expenditures. To learn about the available possibilities and prerequisites for international students wishing to pursue medicine in the USA, I would suggest that your son conducts an extensive study and gets in touch with universities, offices offering financial assistance, as well as looks into the various scholarships offered.

MY SON JUST PASSED OUT CLASS X WITH JUST 76 %. HE IS INTERESTED IN CONTINUING SCIENCE AND MATH UPTO POST-GRADUATION. IS HE RIGHT?
Ans: Avijit Sir, To provide more specific guidance, it would be helpful to know how many marks your son scored in Mathematics and Science specifically, and what exactly has motivated his interest in pursuing these subjects up to graduation. Also, what are his long-term goals? Suggestion: Please arrange a Psychometric Test for him. It will offer a clearer picture of his aptitude, interests, and personality, helping to identify which career paths might align best with his strengths. Academic Preparedness:
Please note that Class XI Science—especially Physics and Mathematics—is highly conceptual and more rigorous than Class X. If he faced difficulties in these subjects earlier, it’s important to bridge that gap now through: A foundation course or Summer preparation by joining any Coaching Cenre Offline or online. Coaching can be helpful, but only if the motivation comes from within. Without genuine interest, coaching may lead to burnout. If he is aiming for competitive exams like JEE (IIT, NIT), NEET, or wants to explore pure sciences at institutes like IISc or IISER, it’s vital to develop a structured study routine early on. Maintain Career Flexibility. Even if he continues with Science and Math now, he can later explore interdisciplinary fields such as: Data Science | Finance | Architecture | Design Or even emerging tech fields Choosing Science now doesn’t limit him—it actually keeps more doors open for the future. All the Best for Your Son's Prosperous Future.

I get 81.2 percentile in jee main session 1 can I get any nit?
Ans: Priyanshi, Here is, How to Predict Your Chances of Admission into NIT or IIIT or GFTI After JEE Main Results – A Step-by-Step Guide.

Providing precise admission chances for each student can be challenging. Some reputed educational websites offer ‘College Predictor’ tools where you can check possible college options based on your percentile, category, and preferences. However, for a more accurate understanding, here’s a simple yet effective 9-step method using JoSAA’s past-year opening and closing ranks. This approach gives you a fair estimate (though not 100% exact) of your admission chances based on the previous year’s data.

Step-by-Step Guide to Check Your Admission Chances Using JoSAA Data
Step 1: Collect Your Key Details
Before starting, note down the following details:

Your JEE Main percentile | Convert the Percentile to AIR, based on the Formula available in Google.
Your category (General-Open, SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, PwD categories)
Preferred institute types (NIT, IIIT, GFTI)
Preferred locations (or if you're open to any location in India)
List of at least 3 preferred academic programs (branches) as backups (instead of relying on just one option)
Step 2: Access JoSAA’s Official Opening & Closing Ranks
Go to Google and type: JoSAA Opening & Closing Ranks 2024
Click on the first search result (official JoSAA website).
You will land directly on JoSAA’s portal, where you can enter your details to check past-year cutoffs.
Step 3: Select the Round Number
JoSAA conducts five rounds of counseling.
For a safer estimate, choose Round 4, as most admissions are settled by this round.
Step 4: Choose the Institute Type
Select NIT, IIIT, or GFTI, depending on your preference.
If you are open to all types of institutes, check them one by one instead of selecting all at once.
Step 5: Select the Institute Name (Based on Location)
It is recommended to check institutes one by one, based on your preferred locations.
Avoid selecting ‘ALL’ at once, as it may create confusion.
Step 6: Select Your Preferred Academic Program (Branch)
Enter the branches you are interested in, one at a time, in your preferred order.
Step 7: Submit and Analyze Results
After selecting the relevant details, click the ‘SUBMIT’ button.
The system will display Opening & Closing Ranks of the selected institute and branch for different categories.
Step 8: Note Down the Opening & Closing Ranks
Maintain a notebook or diary to record the Opening & Closing Ranks for each institute and branch you are interested in.
This will serve as a quick reference during JoSAA counseling.
Step 9: Adjust Your Expectations on a Safer Side
Since Opening & Closing Ranks fluctuate slightly each year, always adjust the numbers for safety.
Example Calculation:
If the Opening & Closing Ranks for NIT Delhi | Mechanical Engineering | OPEN Category show 8622 & 26186 (for Home State), consider adjusting them to 8300 & 23000 (on a safer side).
If the Female Category rank is 34334 & 36212, adjust it to 31000 & 33000.
Follow this approach for Other State candidates and different categories.
Pro Tip: Adjust your expected rank slightly lower than the previous year's cutoffs for realistic expectations during JoSAA counseling.

Can This Method Be Used for JEE April & JEE Advanced?
Yes! You can repeat the same steps after your April JEE Main results to refine your admission possibilities.
You can also follow a similar process for JEE Advanced cutoffs when applying for IITs.
