Career

My second son is doing his B.com BFSI Final year from Sastra Thanjavur. He has a CGPA above 8 till his 4th semester. What he should pursue after his B.com. he has interest in Business Analytics and ACCA. Also whether he can look out for some jobs in Banks/Insurance. For Business Analytics what he should study. He is also keen in pursuing his studies in abroad. Please advise the course he can opt in foreign universities From V NARASIMHAN

Ans: It is natural for parents to be worried about the future of their children. Sastra is a good institute and he can connect with the placement office and get all the details of the post grad courses and job opportunities after BCom. For now my advice would be for him to work hard to improve his grades in the 3rd year to 10. And once he has inputs from his placement team he can write to me again for study abroad by identifying programs, and checking out the eligibility criterion.

My son is now in Class XII Commerce in a CBSE school. He has an ambition of doing MBA from a good Management School. He got 90% in class X of CBSE. Please advise, from career perspective, if he should pursue for B Com or BBA course after his completing the Class XII exam . Please advise the Entrance tests he should pursue to get admission into Institute of repute for the courses , i.e. B COM and BBA. Regards.

Ans: HI,
Did you read the guidelines or not? If not, please go through them. The counseling authorities are providing you with sufficient time to understand the process. This is important. It's not just about booking a movie ticket or a slot for FDFS and watching, regardless of whether it seems good or not.

There are FOUR options for candidates during the counseling process (refer to the COMEDK Counseling Process Quick Guide, Page 8):

1. Accept and Freeze: You are satisfied with the seat allotted and willing to report to the college allotted and do not wish to participate in any subsequent rounds. Download your Online Allotment letter and Fee Payment Receipt and report to college in person as per date mentioned in your allotment letter by fulfilling other requirements.

2. Accept and Upgrade: You are satisfied with the allotted seat but wish to participate in the next round. If higher options are allotted in subsequent Round, then earlier allotted seat gets cancelled automatically OR if higher option seats are not allotted, then earlier allotted seat shall remain in the candidate’s favor.

3. Reject and Upgrade: You are not satisfied with the allotted seat. You are rejecting the allotted seat but wish to participate in the next round to check for allotment of higher preferences/options.

4. Reject and Withdraw: You are not satisfied with the allotted seat and do not wish to participate in further rounds.

For example, if you received an ECE seat in Round 3 and you are not satisfied because your expectation is CSE, you should opt for Option 2 (Accept and Upgrade). If you achieve an upgrade to CSE in Round 4, your previous seat (ECE) will be automatically canceled. If you do not receive a higher preference, the Round 3 ECE seat will be retained.

I hope you understand the process clearly.

Important Note: There is no option to go back to your previous seat if you choose to upgrade and receive a new allotment.

Ans: Yes, it is possible to increase your NEET rank from 4.3 lakh to under 30k in 7 months, but it requires strict discipline, smart planning, and consistent hard work alongside your B.Sc. schedule. Even with a 9–5 college, you have early mornings, evenings, and weekends for focused study. Prioritize NCERT line by line for Biology (70% weightage), revise Physics formulas and practice numericals daily, and thoroughly solve Chemistry NCERT + PYQs. Create a realistic timetable: 4–5 hours on weekdays (early morning and night) and 10–12 hours on weekends. Practice at least one full-length mock test weekly, analyze mistakes, and revise weak areas. Remember, quality > quantity. Stay consistent; focusing on study, smart revision, and regular test practice will steadily improve your score. Motivation, consistency, and a clear strategy are key to cracking it.

Last but practical suggestion: Rethink the decision of appearing for NEET 2026. Our practical experience says it is difficult to jump from 303 to 600 (+) i.e. almost double.
