My second son is doing his B.com BFSI Final year from Sastra Thanjavur. He has a CGPA above 8 till his 4th semester. What he should pursue after his B.com. he has interest in Business Analytics and ACCA. Also whether he can look out for some jobs in Banks/Insurance. For Business Analytics what he should study. He is also keen in pursuing his studies in abroad. Please advise the course he can opt in foreign universities From V NARASIMHAN

Ans: It is natural for parents to be worried about the future of their children. Sastra is a good institute and he can connect with the placement office and get all the details of the post grad courses and job opportunities after BCom. For now my advice would be for him to work hard to improve his grades in the 3rd year to 10. And once he has inputs from his placement team he can write to me again for study abroad by identifying programs, and checking out the eligibility criterion.

My son is now in Class XII Commerce in a CBSE school. He has an ambition of doing MBA from a good Management School. He got 90% in class X of CBSE. Please advise, from career perspective, if he should pursue for B Com or BBA course after his completing the Class XII exam . Please advise the Entrance tests he should pursue to get admission into Institute of repute for the courses , i.e. B COM and BBA. Regards.
Ans: Choosing between B.Com and BBA depends on your son's interests and long-term career goals. Both courses can lead to a successful career in business and management, but they have different approaches and specializations.

B.Com is a more traditional and broader course that focuses on various aspects of commerce and finance. It covers subjects like accounting, economics, taxation, finance, marketing, and business law. It provides a strong foundation in accounting and finance, making it suitable for those interested in pursuing careers in fields like chartered accountancy, banking, finance, or tax consultancy.

BBA is a management-oriented course that focuses on the principles and practices of business management. It covers subjects like marketing, human resources, operations management, organizational behavior, and entrepreneurship.

If your son is specifically interested in management and wants to develop a deeper understanding of management principles right from the undergraduate level, BBA could be a better choice.

As for entrance tests for reputable institutes, here are some of the common entrance exams for BBA/MBA courses:
1. Common Entrance Test (CET): Many states in India conduct their own CET for admission to BBA/MBA programs in state universities and colleges.
2. All India Management Association Undergraduate Aptitude Test (AIMA UGAT): This exam is for admission to various undergraduate programs like BBA, BCA, Integrated MBA, etc.
3. Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET): Conducted by Symbiosis International University, SET is the entrance test for various undergraduate programs, including BBA.
4. Indraprastha University Common Entrance Test (IPU CET): Conducted by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, this exam is for admission to various undergraduate courses, including BBA.
5. Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT): For admission to Xavier University's BBA program.
6. CUET (Ofcourse)

Hello Mayank. My son is in 12th studying commerce. He wants to pursue B.com. In addition to B.com kindly suggest a good course in statistics or Data analysis which he pursue with B.com. He is interested to study in India only.
Ans: Hi Shraddha, it is great to see yo have such clarity and support your son by upskilling. Combining B.Com with a course in statistics or data analysis will open up a wide range of career opportunities in finance, marketing, business analytics, and more. Encourage your son to choose a program that aligns with his interests and career goals. Practical experience through internships or projects can further enhance his learning and employability.
Data analytics is a sought-after skill and has a growing industry demand. Your son can explore professional certifications, diploma courses and bootcamps which are available on online education and skilling providers, offering the flexibility to pursue upskilling while completing his degree.
Additionally, with the growing importance of artificial intelligence, a course in generative AI could provide valuable insights into how AI can be leveraged in various business contexts. Opt for a course that offers practical and versatile skills that can significantly complement B.Com studies and broaden his career opportunities.

We have also built a very integrated Data Science portfolio at upGrad with relevant certifications and bootcamps. You might want to check them out: https://www.upgrad.com/data-science-course/
