Hello Sushil, My daughter is a US citizen currently studying in India and will appear for her 10th. What are the options for UG medical in US for her? Any preparations required. Her aim is to be surgeon later in PG. Thanks

Ans: Hello!
There are two popular undergraduate programs to choose from: Bachelor in Biomedical or Pre-Medicine for your daughter who aspires to pursue a career in medicine. These programs have a duration of four years and require students to demonstrate their proficiency in English by taking the IELTS or TOEFL exam (if their education thus far has been conducted in India) and the SAT exam.

Upon completion of their undergraduate studies, students need to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Based on their MCAT score, students can then enrol in a Master's program to further their education and pursue their career goals in the medical field.

Hi, my daughter is studying in 11 class and she has opted for medical. After 12th she would like to go to USA for further studies. Can you please advise few best Universities in USA for medical programs? And complete process as well?
Ans: Hello,

To begin with, thank you for getting in touch with us. Certainly, we’d be glad to assist! Although studying medicine in the United States might be beneficial, it's vital to keep in mind that the application process can be very competitive. Mentioned below are some of the best medical schools in the USA, along with a description of the application process:

Top Medical Schools in the United States:
1. Harvard University
2. Johns Hopkins University
3. Stanford University
4. University of California--San Francisco
5. University of Pennsylvania (Perelman)
6. Washington University in St. Louis
7. Duke University
8. University of California--Los Angeles (Geffen)
9. Yale University
10. Columbia University

Remember that this is not an exhaustive list, as there are several additional good medical universities in the United States.

Application Procedure:

1. Prerequisites: Before applying, your daughter must obtain a bachelor's degree (often a pre-medical or cognate degree) with prerequisite coursework in biology, chemistry, physics, and maths.

2. MCAT: The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is a requirement for admission to the majority of American medical schools. It is a standardized exam that evaluates an applicant's understanding of scientific principles, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

3. Recommendation Letters: Your daughter will require outstanding letters of recommendation from professors, mentors, or professionals who can attest to her intellectual prowess and character.

4. Statement of Purpose: Typically, applicants must compose a convincing personal statement outlining their purpose to pursue a medical career, relevant experiences, and attributes that make them a viable candidate.

5. Application via AMCAS or AACOMAS: The majority of medical schools use centralized application systems: the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) for MD programs and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Application Service (AACOMAS) for DO programs.

6. Additional Applications: Some colleges may request secondary applications with additional essays or questions after the initial application. These are used to further determine the applicant's suitability for the program.

7. Interviews: Your daughter will be invited to the schools for interviews, if chosen. This serves as an opportunity for her to learn more about the program and for the school to learn more about her.

8. Acceptance: She will have to select one institution and file the necessary paperwork if she receives acceptance offers.

9. Visa Procedure: The university's office for international students will assist your daughter with the visa application procedure when she accepts an offer.

10. Medical Licensing Exams: After completing the medical program in the United States, she will need to pass the United States Medical Licencing Examination (USMLE) in order to practise medicine.

It's important to thoroughly examine the programs and make appropriate plans because each university may have unique criteria and deadlines. Getting advice from academic advisors, mentors, or business experts might be advantageous because the application process can be complicated.

Hi, my daughter is doing +2 (medical) in India. She want to become doctor. What are the options for her to become doctor in US? What she needs to study in US after her +2 (medical) in india?
Ans: Hello. Thank you for connecting with us. It is amazing to hear that she wants to pursue a medical program in the USA. However, let me tell you that before applying to any medical school, international students should make sure they have completed a four-year bachelor's degree with all of the prerequisite classes needed for the particular medical school being applied to. The prerequisites vary as per the school, but almost all schools require the students to have studied the following science courses: biology, general chemistry, and organic chemistry. Some schools may also require that you have taken other humanities, English, mathematics, and science classes as well, so make sure you look into medical schools while you are still an undergraduate so you can choose your classes appropriately. You will also need to have completed the MCAT test, which stands for Medical College Admissions Test. The test will determine your ability to think critically, problem-solve, and write clearly, as well as measure your knowledge of various scientific concepts. A good score on the MCAT is key to getting into a good medical school. International students must complete a pre- med program, which may take 1-2 years to complete at a US university, to start a degree in medicine in the country. The student will then be required to complete a 4.5-year degree after the pre- med to be awarded an MD degree under AUAMED.

Relationship
Hi Anu I am a married woman with a very supportive husband and daughter. For last 10 years I am having an affair with a colleague and things are pretty well between us. Both of us have found the comfort and requisite from each other which we missed in married life and it saved our respective marriage though none of our family are aware of it. We balanced this till now effectively. Recently I got an opportunity within the company which is very lucrative and will enhance my career goals altogether however, for this I have to shift to another state. Now , my bf is very upset on this as it means he will not be able to meet me as we do every day. My husband and Daughter is fine with my shifting however my parents who are old are also apprehensive since I am the only child and do take care of them. My husband has assured to support them in absence of me and I have full confidence on him. All throughout my life I have focused on my professional career and have worked towards that and now when I got this opportunity I am emotionally unstable and unable to take the decision. My dilemma is surrounding various aspects. 1- Don’t want to leave my BF as he is my strength. 2- My parents are old and since I being the only child, they ae 3- If I could not perform in the new role then? 4- The daily hardship that I have to take over in a new place as my husband will not shift. 5- Remuneration wise not as such however if you say power then yes. Learning – knowledge enhancement and career upliftment - yes very much. 6- Current role will not grow much however stability as of now do exists. Can you help me to take the decision ?
Ans: Dear Nibedita,
What is important to you and what helps you grow professionally and personally must be looked at? Constraints are always going to play a role BUT working around it may help you make a decision. If professionally you are going to grow into the role and for this you need to work around things for the time being, then you must do just that. But in all this, do factor that you have a daughter who is still young and will need your presence a lot; physically and emotionally.
Now, how you work this with your BF is something that is between the two of you; but it's not power or money BUT how you grow in your new role.
Also, talk to your family and come to an arrangement whereby they also become your pillar of strength and support. You will then be able to come to a viable decision.

All the best!
