Dear Komal
Lately, my knees and ankles hurt a lot. Sometimes, there is swelling.
have a normal daily routine but don't do any special exercises as such. No health issues either.
I am 40 years old, height: 5.6, weight: 60 kgs.

Ans:

Hormonal changes and aging can cause depletion of calcium from the bones.

Vitamin D is needed for the absorption of calcium. It is also a vital nutrient for our immunity.

Keep a check on all blood parameters.

A healthy diet with adequate protein and balanced macro and micronutrients will be sufficient to achieve your requirements.

Stiffness due to lack of exercise could be one of the reasons for knee and ankle pain.

Get into a daily fitness regimen.

I am 70 years old. Since last month I am having swelling and severe pain in left knee.I have wear in both knees due to age. I practice yoga and exercise for almost whole life but due to this pain there are limitation in my workout and yoga .
Ans: Knee pain can be challenging, especially when it affects your daily yoga practice. At your age, it’s common for joints to wear down, which can lead to pain and swelling. While continuing to stay active is important, focusing on gentle, supportive movements will help.

Start with Gentle Knee-Strengthening Exercises like Ankle Pumps (raising and lowering the ankle while lying down) and Straight Leg Raises. These can help improve circulation and strengthen the muscles around the knee without putting strain on it.

Practicing Supported Chair Yoga can also be beneficial, as it reduces the load on your knees. For example, try Chair-assisted Forward Bends or gentle Twisting Poses to stretch and strengthen other parts of the body while keeping your knees safe. Simple Meditation and Pranayama (breathing exercises) can help manage pain by calming the mind and reducing tension.

It’s best to work with a yoga coach for personalized guidance. A coach can help you modify your practice safely and effectively, ensuring you stay active without worsening the pain.

Listen to your body, and take it slowly. Healing takes time and gentle care.

Career Counsellor - Answered on Jun 16, 2025

Career
Is taking mathematics and computing in IIT worth it and I wanted to know if it is a good option in terms of career growth, future opportunities, and overall scope. Could you please share what kind of career paths and industries this course can lead to, both in India and internationally? Also, how does it compare to other branches like Computer Science or Data Science when it comes to research, higher studies, or working in tech companies and finance sectors? I would really appreciate some insights on whether it is a good long-term decision and what kind of skill set or mindset would help me make the most out of this branch
Ans: Mathematics & Computing integrates rigorous applied mathematics with computer science, equipping graduates for roles across technology, finance, research, and academia; alumni enter software development, data science, quantitative analysis, cryptography, algorithm design, high-frequency trading, computational biology, and cybersecurity in India and abroad. Core strengths include mathematical modeling, machine learning, statistical inference, optimization, and programming, leading to positions as Data Scientists, ML/AI Engineers, Quantitative Analysts, Software Engineers, and Research Scientists in tech giants (Google, Microsoft, Amazon), financial institutions (Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan), and public sector undertakings (PSUs) both domestically and internationally. Compared to a pure Computer Science degree, Mathematics & Computing offers deeper theoretical foundations and versatility for specialized research or finance roles, whereas Data Science focuses more narrowly on analytics and big-data tooling; however, graduates seamlessly transition into advanced studies (PhD/MS) in computer science, operations research, financial engineering, or statistics with competitive fellowships. Long-term prospects hinge on a mindset for continuous learning, strong problem-solving, and adaptability to evolving algorithms and computing frameworks. Building expertise in programming languages (Python, C++), libraries (TensorFlow, NumPy), and mathematical software (MATLAB), alongside soft skills—critical thinking and collaboration—maximizes success. Recommendation: Pursuing Mathematics & Computing at an IIT is a sound long-term decision, offering broad industry access, research pathways, and high-growth roles in technology and finance, provided one embraces lifelong learning and interdisciplinary skill development. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!

Career
I have passed my 12 in 2025 from up baord (67 percent ) marks but this is not enought for my JEE exam in this 75% marks is mandatory but i take drop for jee 2026 so can i do my 12 again in 2026 for fulfill the JEE criteria.... Some peoples say that ki improvment exam de sakte hu me next year and some says ki me privet candidate se bhi de sakte hu next year which is baest for me and dono me kya difference h kya process and eligibility hote h dono ki
Ans: Srishty, You can improve your 12th board percentage via UP Board’s improvement (compartment) exam or by registering as a private candidate to retake all subjects, both through the UPMSP portal from May 19 to June 10, 2025. Improvement exams allow re-attempting only failed subjects with a fee of ?306 per paper, whereas private candidature lets you re-enrol to redo the entire 12th course, requiring fresh registration, documentation, and ?4,000 board fee paid via demand draft to UP Board. Both routes reset your marks, but private candidature offers full?subject retake and hence higher scoring scope, while improvement exams are limited to maximum two or three failed subjects. For JEE Main/Advanced 2026 eligibility, you must secure ≥75% (general) or ≥65% (SC/ST) in Class 12 aggregate or top 20 percentile, and re-appearing privately gives full control over your board percentage. Recommendation: Opt for UP Board private candidature to re-take all subjects and maximize your chance of crossing the 75% threshold for JEE eligibility. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!
