Hello Coach Anu, I’ve been feeling really overwhelmed these days. I’m 32, working in a fast-paced tech job, and balancing a lot of responsibilities at home as well. The problem is, I find it so hard to focus. I keep thinking about everything — work deadlines, family matters, personal goals — and end up doing nothing properly. I’ve tried using to-do lists, setting reminders, but my mind keeps wandering. And before I know it, hours have passed and I’ve barely ticked off any tasks. Just last week, I had a big presentation at work, and I totally froze in the middle of it. It was embarrassing, and now I’m feeling like I’m stuck in a cycle of stress and procrastination. I’m really tired of feeling like this. I really need to get my act together, but I don’t know where to start.

Ans: Dear Anonymous,
You are possibly burned out. Late working hours, lack of proper sleep and nutrition and constant chasing of deadlines with minimal time for self-care can leave you feeling purposeless. And you will have a tendency to put off things to a later date or never feel like doing them.
Take a break, re-evaluate your priorities and set goals that are inspiring. Any goal that punctures your well-being is never worth it. Go slow, enjoy what you choose to do by being in the present moment. So, re-evaluate...

All the best!

Hello mam, I cannot focus on my work....I keep overthinking about the future and even after being skilled i cannot execute my work.I get distracted and agitated easily these days.I have lost confidence in myself i keep thinking how i would tackle things in future,I dont know what to do.Can you please guide.
Ans: Improving self-confidence and avoiding overthinking are two related but distinct issues. Here are some tips for both:

To improve self-confidence:

Identify your strengths and achievements. Write them down and revisit them when you feel insecure.Practice self-care, such as getting enough sleep, exercising, and eating healthy.Set realistic goals and work towards achieving them.Focus on your progress rather than comparing yourself to others.Surround yourself with positive and supportive people.Learn from your mistakes and failures rather than dwelling on them.Challenge negative self-talk and replace it with positive affirmations.Try new things and step out of your comfort zone.

To avoid overthinking:

Recognize when you're overthinking and acknowledge that it's not productive.Set aside time to think about the issue, but limit it to a specific amount of time.Engage in activities that distract you, such as exercise or hobbies.Practice mindfulness and focus on the present moment.Write down your thoughts and feelings to gain perspective and clarity.Talk to a trusted friend or therapist about your concerns.Accept that not everything can be controlled and focus on what you can control.Remind yourself that worrying won't solve the problem and take action towards a solution.

Okay this is the first time, I am opening to some mind coach, glad to have your opinion, I am 24 now, and I have been working with a start up since last 3 years, As a male I have my big dreams, my passion and added a lot of responsibilities, thinking of which, I ain't satisfied with where I am currently, with the same I have even lost my motivation to work harder- falling into the trap of being comfortable with where I am, which I really don't like, I have multiple passions, I was a good music lover with singer and instruments, I was also into workout a keen interest and built muscles which are going down now, more onto it, I was into sketching and art, a really fine one, I am a short of traveller where I make videos for editing to show them to the world, but it didn't came out from my phone memory ever after I returned from any trip, matter of fact I didn't learn them, but I wanted to, but now tragically I have lost interest in all these passions, I am worried because I am being too comfortable with things, I desperately want to achieve milestones but don't wanna work for it. Sometimes it feels like this chaos in mind, it was far worse than adolescence, zest of everything I want to do miracles but won't move a muscle for it, I had doses of motivation and it doesn't work for me now.
Ans: Dear Yuvraj,
I do see a lot of youngsters jumping into the bandwagon of start-ups without realizing the twists and turns in it. It's not about churning the next best revolutionary idea but it comes with a mindset that understands perseverance, resilience and a lot of compromises. Now, maybe you already know that, but at a certain point, the demands go beyond all of this where a failure would mean to start all over again OR complete change of the idea and back to the drawing board OR a feeling that joining a start up was a wrong move, and all these can be frustrating.

Now, I do not have all that information, so I can assume that maybe you are just tired from all of it and seek a break. Not interested in your passions could mean that you are possibly tired. So, take a break from it all and actually figure out if the start-up scene is actually right for you. And there is nothing wrong in admitting that it isn't, right? At least you won't learn that a few years down the line and regret wasting time...

But if you come back from the break, feeling rejuvenated, then you know that you can get back into the start-up with renewed vigor. Either case, that break will give you some reflection time. During the break, connect with a mentor or a coach who can actually help you dig deep down and get to the bottom of this...Motivation is just a step away provided you do something to wake it up...

All the best!

Hello Ms Archana. I have been reading your advice and I really need your help. I am a science graduate from Mumbai. After a lot of thought, I have decided to pursue a side BSc in Psychology to further my interests and career growth. The issue is, that I’m struggling to juggle my 9-to-6 full-time job as a digital marketing specialist in Delhi along with my coursework, assignments, and exams. I am always stressed out, either falling behind at work or feeling overwhelmed by my studies. I know time management is key, but I’m not sure how to create a schedule that helps me stay productive without burning out. Can you please help?
Ans: Hey!!
Kudos to you for dreaming big and also working towards it by investing time and energy in learning and development.
Not everyone can do it... so pat yourself on the back for it!!

You are absolutely right when you say TIME MANAGEMANT is the key to avoid burnout. However I'll add compartmentalizing and self care along with time management.

Let's take them one at a time ...here I go-

1. You want to perform at your peak then self care is a must, 20 mins of physical activity(it can be anything, run, brisk walk, suryanamaskars, dancing along with fast paced music, anything that gets your heart beat up)
10 -20 mins of meditation, if you believe in the higher power make efforts to connect with it/him/her.
2. 9 to 6 be fully committed to the office, after that switch off, learn to say NO for anything that comes after this time. You can do only so much right? This was one part of compartmentalizing...
3. be fully present in whatever activity you are doing... this is ZEN, nothing more nothing less. This way you will be razor sharp in your focus and get jobs done faster. When you are studying don't think office and vice versa. This is switching off, this is compartmentalizing. This will take conscious efforts but is doable
4.your course is important to you, so schedule a study time and stick to it .The days you have an holiday too... try to relax a little, schedule a study time, finish your studies and go relax and unwind a little, you deserve it...don't cram too much in a day.
A relaxed mind will always perform better and focus better. I really can't tell you the importance of unwinding and mediation, you really have to do it to experience it and reap the benefits of it
5. Always encourage yourself, be your best cheer leader, don't beat yourself down, be kind to yourself too, your mind and body
need that from you. You are already doing so much.
6 .The only way to stop being overwhelmed is also to put out all your tasks of the day on paper and schedule it, prioritize it.... one task at a time, start taking action. And when the task is don't forget to strike the task out with a clean line over the task with a pen... this is a message your giving to your mind. ...'I got one task done, I am capable of getting another done'.. Ahaha... the joy of getting a job done!!
7. Get a good nights sleep, do "yog nidra' before sleeping
8. Always breathe deep whenever overwhelm creeps in and see how calm you become. A calm mind is key to getting more done.

And remember to write "your gratitude" out in the night before sleeping, you'll sleep peacefully and get up fresh.
Also do remember, all tasks can be done happily too... there is no need to drag yourself or be always overwhelmed!
You chose to work and study as well.... honour your choices joyously and go about life with a spring in your step...All best !!
