I have been investing in fixed deposits for the past 4 years. Now that FD rates are not anymore, i want to shift to Mutual funds. My investment is around 10 Lakhs. I am looking for short time capital appreciation (in around 1 year). Risk apatite is low to moderate. Kindly advice the appropriate MFs for me. Currently i am holding a small investment in SBI Equity Hybrid Fund Regular Growth. Please advice whether i should hold it or exit?

Ans: For investments for 1 year debt is better option and the categories that can be considered is Low duration fund; Risk of these funds are Moderately Low

Few funds that can be considered are as under:

Hdfc Low Duration Fund - Retail - Regular Plan - Growth

Aditya Birla Sun Life Low Duration Fund - Growth-regular Plan

Hybrid – Aggressive i.e SBI Equity Hybrid Fund Regular Growth has moderately high risk and better fund in this category is Canara Robeco Equity Hybrid Fund Regular Growth

I am not so much into MFs but started investing around 1.5 yrs back in the below funds. Being a middle class person and having two kids (8 years and 2 years), I am planning to invest a bit more and have some decent amount after 10-15 years. Please suggest one or two good MFs in which I can start investing. Also suggest any changes that I need to make in my present portfolio -- like increase, decrease or stop. Parag Parikh Flexi Cap (G) Rs 1,500 per month ICICI Pru Multicap (G) Rs 1,000 per month DSP Ultra Short (G) Rs 1,000 per month

I am 46 Years old. I have not started investing in MFs so far. I want to start investing 6K - 8K for now & increase 10 per cent every year for 10 years. & withdraw the money after my retirement in 14 years. Which MF should I invest so that I can maximise my returns for my retirement funds? Kindly guide me so that I can start at least now.

Ans: Equity schemes are best suited for creation wealth in long run and the suitable schemes are as under (Can start SIP of Rs. 1500-Rs. 2000 in each of these 4 funds)

You can expect core branches related to computers, but there are fewer chances for CSE in Bangalore. If you are willing to look outside of Bangalore, then CSE is an option. However, if you are only interested in colleges in Bangalore, you need to inquire with your preferred college about the availability of the Management of NRI quota.

Preference order: (1) CSE @ Narula (2) CSE @ LPU (3) IT @ GGU (4) ECE @ SIT. Choose either Narula or LPU. If LPU is nearer to your home-town then prefer it else go with Narula.

Hi Mihir, Hope you are doing great! Sharing my situation here: I had purchased a 3bhk bare shell flat in May'22 @40lacs. I had renovated with luxury furnishing including electronics and now selling for ~90 lacs. For your note: ~22 lacs of loan is still pending to be paid for this flat which i will do from the initial sale proceedings. I am planning to purchase another apartment now @~2.2Cr (plus ~13 lacs for registration, stamp duty, brokerage, etc), but i wanted to only invest ~50 lacs from the previous flat sale into the new flat and rest by bank loan, and invest rest ~40 lacs in mutual funds. Please suggest how i can ensure my capital gains are fully exempt here. Thank you for your help!

Ans: As you have purchased flat in 40 lacs, capital gain is likely to be 50 lacs and you are planning to invest 50 lacs only in new property. Thus, it appears that entire gain is likely to be exempt u/s 54 in FY 2025-26.

With the given score and category, chances are very slim of gaining admission to any NITs or IIITs. Consider any reputed college near your hometown and seek admission to CSE, CSE+AI, CSE +DS, or CSE +DS ML specialization, etc. It is not feasible for us to list the names of colleges spread across pan-India.
