Can I Learn Yoga Without a Guru or Trainer?

Most teachers will tell you if their classes are suitable for beginners or not. It can be a little challenging to keep up in the beginning, but eventually, everyone picks up momentum. The second thing you need to remember is to listen to your body. When you are not in the physical presence of a teacher, there's a greater responsibility on the practitioner to be wise about what they are doing. Eagerness or urgency to get into postures or excessively pushing the body can be detrimental. So patience and prudence are needed. :)

First & foremost has to be your intention. What is that you wish to learn and why is it that you wish to learn. Yoga is much bigger for you to connect it with any teacher. Try different teachers for you to resonate with, but mostly it is about your own abhyasa or practice. A good teacher will definitely be instrumental in teaching you the correct techniques in an asana, but in the end it is our practice that can help you take your intention further. Remember that the benefits of Practicing Yogasanas on the physical body are only a side effect, the real deal is the mental peace that you get which in the long run will elevate you.

You can practice basic Sukshma Kriyas on your own, but I would suggest that you do therapeutic and restorative asanas with an expert. Keep up the good work.

Ans: Yoga is relatively low impact and you can start a gentle practice online if you don't have any other pre-existing health conditions or injuries. While it will not be as good or rewarding as learning through a teacher, it is better than not practising at all. Do remember to listen to your body, and don't do things that you don't understand or feel uncomfortable when doing an online practice. To get the benefits of Yoga, please make sure you also practice pranayama and meditation. That's what makes it complete and most powerful.
