Hi Komal, What is Diabetes Reversal? Does it mean can we stop medication and eat food that we like mindfully? What are the chances of diabetes reversal for a person 30 years old, weight of 78kg, height of 5’9... is it useful if we take membership in Sugarfit program?

Now a days we are hearing a lot on reversal of diabetes. We hear stories of chronic diabetic patient who were insulin dependant for many years getting free of diabetic medicine in a year's time and also of people who have landed up in ICU's after starting the programme. Can these stories be believed and weather reversal is really possible . Being a diabetic since the last 2 years would like to get a clarity from an expert like you.

Ans: Diabetes remission is a better term than reversal. Patient selection is important and it may not be possible in all. Diet and lifestyle changes are the key, with weight reduction if required. Need guidance with a team of a Doctor and a Registered Dietitan. Initially some medicines may also help with weight and then gradually tapered. Even after remission, regular monitoring may be needed as advised.

Ans: Hello. Reversing diabetes essentially means controlling sugars off medications. It would still mean being on a strict low carb diet, increased physical activity, stress control and regular checkup. It is possible to come off medications as above.

Requesting you not to panic at this early stage. Let her appear for JEE session 2 and the state-level engineering entrance test. Let all the results out. You have ample time to think about the available options for engineering admission. At this stage, no need to think about management quota unless and until you want a particular branch in a particular college. Depending on her score in upcoming exams, she may get admission to reputed engineering either in Pune or Bengaluru
