Hello Aruna ji I have 14 year old son currently in class 9th. From last couple of years we observed that he is not good in subjects where lot of memorization required like Social science. He is average in Science and Maths. What we and teacher understand after discussion that he is not able to form his answers and not able to understand what question is asking. We evaluate with physcologist she identifies that he is facing issue in understanding and writing comprehensions. He has a tendency to skip questions if he dont understand or seems difficult. He didnot even try to look for answers or think. Child physcologist said he is good kid and did not has other issues just need to work on weak areas and required no further assessment. How do you think we can improve his comprehensions and learning/memorization abilities ? and what should we can do from here ?

Ans: Comprehension can improve after giving him small paragraphs, which can have multiple questions for him to answer. This is going to help him to comprehend the whole thing better and than he will be able to answer. Before writing he needs to focus more on his listening and reading skills.

Ans: I'm sorry to hear that your son is struggling in school. It's great that you and your wife are trying to help him. Here are some tips that may help:

1. Encourage healthy habits: Eating a balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly can help improve focus and concentration.

2. Create a study-friendly environment: Make sure your son has a quiet, well-lit space to study. Remove any distractions, such as TV or mobile phones, during study time.

3. Set goals: Work with your son to set achievable goals for his studies. Break down larger goals into smaller, more manageable tasks.

4. Reward progress: Celebrate your son's successes, no matter how small. Rewards can be as simple as a favorite meal or activity.

5. Encourage active learning: Encourage your son to take an active role in his learning. This can include asking questions, taking notes, and summarizing what he's learned.

6. Get support: Consider enlisting the help of a tutor or academic coach. They can provide additional support and guidance to help your son succeed.

Remember, every child learns differently, so it may take some time to find what works best for your son. Be patient and supportive, and don't hesitate to seek professional help if needed.

My Son 13 years, is in 8th std ,ICSE student, When he was in 7th std he was doing good in his MCQ pattern ,But when he entered in 8th std he's become a average student academically, From 8th std school has started taking written Exams of 40marks Terminals,& its found he's not good at learning the answers by heart, Till the 7th std there were no written exams and from 8th std regular written exams has started ,its looks difficult for him to by heart the answers in History,Geography,Science,Hindi, subjects, So how to solve this issue.
Ans: Hi Abhijeet

This is a very usual case. Whenever a child shifts from one method to another, it takes some time to upgrade himself to the new pattern. MCQ test pattern and Written test pattern are different. Both patterns require different skills.

In short, your son is struggling to adapt to the new format of written exams in 8th grade. This shift from MCQs to written exams requires different study techniques, such as active recall, effective note-taking, and practice writing.

To help him improve, you can:
1) Encourage him to use active recall techniques like flashcards and quizzes.
2) Teach him effective note-taking methods like the Cornell method or mind mapping.
3) Help him practice writing essays and join a writing group if possible.
4) Assist him in creating a study schedule and breaking down assignments into smaller tasks.

At last, keep patient, every child is different. Give him some time to adjust to the new pattern. Your motion and support are much needed at this stage and that too without showing any panic on your face.

If you are dissatisfied with the reply, please ask again without hesitation.
If satisfied, please like and follow me.
Thanks

Radheshyam

I am engineer with 16 years of IT experience and now a break of 11 yrs. But in 11 yrs I had been taking Quantitative aptitude lectures as a visiting faculty in various engineering and MBA colleges and also done Mutual fund certification. I haven't been siting but doing many things professionally in last 11 yrs(In my subject of interest as Maths, Teaching, Finance, Accounting, Wealth Management). I was thinking of doing ESG certification. What kind of role I would get if i am CFA ESG certified.I am looking for Professionally and intellectually engaging role where I can contribute to Society. Not a very NGO type( I have tried working with few NGO's)
Ans: I won't recommend you to go for ESG certification unless you are having a background of Env. Engg and Environmental Impact Assessment. The certificate course of ESG is costly also. I would request you to open your own academy ( if off line not possible then online) and go for only one subject. Let me know your age.Focus only on one subject. You have explored many areas and now you are perplexed. Here the questions are assigned to me through rediffmail. So second time whether your question will come to me or not is not known to anyone of us. Due to the policy I can’t share my email ID and Phone Number. But I would request you to follow me in LINKEDIN and send request so that I can accept you, then through LINKEDIN I can counsel you in the future multiple times. Through LINKEDIN I will be readily and easily accessible. I have counselled and changed thousands of lives. As long as I am there I won’t allow you to be defeated. Mind that always I am there with you like an invisible shadow to show you the right career path.
