Dear Sir, My son is completing his Bachelor's of Physiotherapy and he is interested to pursue his Master's in Sports Physiotherapy or Sports & Exercise Medicine abroad which is costing around 40 lac plus. Please suggest me whether pursuing Masters abroad with high budget involved will make him better professionally, if so which country/University is best for pursuing Master's.

Ans: Hi Ravi....Greetings
Pursuing a Master's in Sports Physiotherapy or Sports & Exercise Medicine abroad can indeed be a valuable investment in your son's professional future. These fields are highly specialized, and studying abroad can provide access to advanced research, state-of-the-art facilities, and practical experience with elite athletes. Countries like the UK, Australia, and Canada are renowned for their programs in sports sciences and physiotherapy, offering globally recognized degrees that can enhance his career prospects. Graduates from these programs often find opportunities in professional sports teams, rehabilitation centers, and research institutions, which could lead to a fulfilling and lucrative career.

However, it's important to carefully weigh the financial investment against the potential returns. The cost of education abroad, especially when factoring in living expenses, can be significant. Ensuring that the chosen program and university offer strong industry connections, placement opportunities, and pathways to work in the country post-graduation will be crucial. Universities like the University of Queensland in Australia, Loughborough University in the UK, and the University of British Columbia in Canada are among the top choices for these fields. Each has strong ties to the sports industry and a track record of successful alumni, making them worthwhile options to consider.

Regards.

Good day Sir. My son is in final year MBBS and shall graduate in 2025 and complete his compulsory internship in a April 2026 . He does not prefer Family Medicine or paediatric medicine and he has not finalized his passion for any particular stream yet. He wants to do his Masters from UK or USA. I understand USMLE is required for USA and PLAB is required for UK studies. My queries are : 1. What are expenses for completing USMLE and PLAB ? 2. What are possibilities of getting Residencies in USA / UK ? 3. Shall he require additional financial support after getting Residencies ? Pros and Cons of studies in both the countries ? 5. Any specific requirement for studies abroad ? 6. Finally, your suggestion as to where my son should do his Masters after completing his MBBS in India ? I shall appreciate your valuable guidance . Thanks and regards Sujit Roy
Ans: Hi Sujit,
Hello,

I am pleased to learn that your son will be completing his MBBS next year and is considering pursuing higher education. From your query, it seems that you are contemplating whether he should pursue his higher education abroad. There are several factors that need to be taken into consideration before making a decision. Some of these factors include:

1. He will need to clear the USMLE or PLAB exams, which will require dedicated effort. Until he completes these exams, he will require both financial and moral support.

2. The specialization he is interested in pursuing is a crucial factor to consider.

3. The choice of university will also play a significant role, as it may impact the availability of financial aid.

4. Additionally, it is important to weigh the pros and cons of studying in the USA or the UK and make an informed decision based on the specifics of each country.

Ultimately, the decision about his higher education should be made based on your financial circumstances and the support that can be provided without undue strain.

But i feel USA is better option when compare to UK.

"All the best to your son for his future endeavors."

What are prospects of doing masters in Physiotherapy in India as compared to doing from a foreign country
Ans: Hi Ajay. Thank you for your query. Both pursuing a Master's in Physiotherapy in India and abroad have unique advantages, depending on your career goals and interests. A Master's in India provides a strong focus on the clinical aspects of physiotherapy, allowing you to gain extensive hands-on experience with a high volume of patients in hospitals, clinics, and rehabilitation centers. This exposure can enhance your practical skills and clinical decision-making. Additionally, if you aim to build a career in teaching within Indian institutions, having a Master’s degree from India is often preferred, as colleges tend to recognize and value domestic qualifications.

On the other hand, pursuing a Master’s abroad, especially in countries like the UK, Australia, or the US, often emphasizes research and evidence-based practice. This approach helps build a strong foundation in scientific methodologies and research skills, which can be valuable if you're interested in contributing to academic research or pursuing a PhD later. International programs can also offer global exposure, advanced technology, and varied healthcare systems, which can be an asset if you aim to work in a multicultural environment or pursue international job opportunities.

Overall, both paths have their benefits. If your interest lies in practical experience and patient care, studying in India could be a better fit. But if you are inclined toward research and global opportunities, pursuing a Master’s abroad might align with your goals. Wishing you best for your future endeavors.

Relationships Expert, Mind Coach - Answered on Jun 02, 2025

Relationship
I've been married for 19 years. We live in a joint family with my husband and in-laws. Since last year, my father has recently become bedridden and needs constant care. Since he lives in another city, I have been travelling constantly to take turns to attend him. I want to bring him to our home, but my mother-in-law strongly objects saying they will lose their privacy. My husband tries to mediate but often ends up siding with his mother, saying she's getting old too. I am not able to decide being a daughter and a daughter-in-law. Is it unfair of me to expect support for my father, or am I compromising too much in this marriage?
Ans: Dear Anonymous,
You surely are walking on a thin rope trying to balance both sides...it seems unfair, yes!
What I can suggest to you is: Find out what exactly is your mother-in-law's concern? What does she mean by 'lose their privacy'?
Usually, these statements are just reactionary to a much deeper concern. Try to address what bothers her; it could be as simple as your attention moving away from home and other responsibilities...she may possibly feel awkward being around your father...all these facts get masked under broad statements which to you may seem like excuses...so instead of playing this dance being the daughter and daughter-in-law, dig out more information, so that you can address concerns and not the reactions from them.

All the best!
