Should I choose a college that is closer to home in order to save time for studies or should I apply to a top ranked university that offers a good course but in a different city?

Ans: If you get a good college in a different city, it is definitely a better choice. You can rent a place closer or if hostel is there your travel time can be managed.

Yet, if you wish to choose any college...
1) then visit it in person if possible.
2) Try to collect information about its infrastructure, faculty, etc
3) How old the college is?
4) what is its placement record
5) If PG is available in the same college or not?
6) Its cultural activities and much more
etc etc etc
