Relationship

I am not at all happy at work. There is a lot of politics going on. I haven't been promoted for 8 years and I am working like a slave even during weekends and holidays. I don't understand how to fix this. Please help.

Ans: Dear Anonymous,
Maybe it's time to reevaluate your priorities...
Maybe it's time to ask yourself if this job is something that is not posing very creative challenges...
Where there are people, there will always be politics and this has to be managed. How do you do that? By raising your emotional quotient.
Reading books on this may help, but in the current state, you can ask a senior from the office who can be trusted to step in as a role model or anyone else who has been in the industry for a good number of years and has been successful at people management.
Learn from them and this could be a way in which you can navigate and course though in your work place. As for working round the clock, it could be time management or you are possibly spending time worrying about the politics and losing your job that you may have ended up taking on more work in order to please your team or manager. This is just a thought and you can think further about it...

Dear Sir, I would like to keep my question anonymous. I am 50 years old. I have a good position in the company but I am not top management. More and more, I find myself being sidelined and younger people’s opinions and ideas have more value. I work in a hotel group. I have sat down with my seniors to find out if they are unhappy with my work but they assure me it is not so. Personally, though, I am unhappy as I feel irrelevant. I do not wish to stop working nor am I in a position to start out on my own as I have two children studying abroad and aged parents and in-laws to take care of. The more unhappy I feel, the more I feel I am performing badly. How do I get out of this problem? Would be grateful for any advice you can share.

I am working last 7 years in a PSU in Logistics at my home location where my personal life is pretty much organized in terms of wife's workplace, son education. However I am not seeing any growth perspective and work environment is detoriating day by day. Work pressure and long hours is impacting my personal life. I have worked in this company for 7 years without a raise or promotion. Every time I complain or raise the discussion, my manager acknowledges my contributions but says 'we know, but the timing isn't right' or he would say "we don't have the budget.' I feel they are not taking me seriously. I am starting to feel a bit undervalued and demotivated.
