Hi I have recently exhausted all my sum assured on my son's illness. He had a bacterial pneumonia (Lung Infection) Now can I apply for TOP up. So that i can increase the SA at less cost & cover my family for future medical emergencies. Will the insurance co cover me & my family the as this year we already got claim towards my son's lung infection. I had a 5 lacs SA. 5 lacs refill & 5 lacs NCB. I also have a renewal on my existing policy coming up next month.

Ans: Hello;

Some insurer allow top-up on some of their policies so you will need to check with your insurer regarding this aspect.

Also since your healthcare policy renewal is close explore possibility of porting your health insurance to another insurer, with a good track record, who offers unlimited/twice restoration benefit on your policy in a single policy year.

Best wishes;

 I am an employee of central govt. PSU. My family consists of myself, spouse, two minor children and mother. I am covered by a corporate group medical insurance policy for Rs 2 lakh with an additional emergency coverage of Rs 4 lakh by the employer. I also have a personal Family Floater policy for Rs 3 lakh and a Sr. Ctzn. Policy for Rs 1 lakh. I have not used the personal policies till date for any hospitalisation claim. I am aware that a claim exceeding the corporate policy limit can be claimed in the personal policy. Recently I was made to know that any planned hospitalisation exceeding the corporate claim limit, cannot be done using the second policy. I also know that there is a product called as top up policy which can be used in such cases. I have 8 years of remaining service where there is a medical insurance cover during the period. After retirement, the employer provides a basic policy of 1.5 lakh for the family. The same feels to be insufficient in today’s times. What would be your advice with regards to the existing medical insurance policies and their amounts? Should I need to undertake any tweaking of the policy amounts or switch to a top up policy?
Ans: Hi Pradeep, yours is a legit concern. It would be best if you take advice from a professional person or company – having the necessary qualifications -- after discussing your issue with them.

Insurance is each to its own. Depending on your concerns and requirements a professional service provider will be able to give you the best advice, whether to tweak policy amount or switch to top up.

Hello Team, I have clarification w.r.t Insurance and please find my details below 12-Jul-2023: Second Child born 10-Aug-2023: Floater Policy(2 Adults and 1 Child) took as suggested by Agent with 3 years Premium Second child cannot be added due to minimum eligibility days Agent recommended to add 2nd child after 60days and difference premium to be paid After 90 days (not sure about the date): Tried to add 2nd child to the policy through agent but it was not able to done Agent suggested that "We can add it in next year (i.e during Start of August 2024) 10-Aug-2024: When checked with Star health, they said that "Addition/deletion can be done at 2026" and said that "Addition of child should be done through mail after 91 days and website will not support to add a child" and when I asked the document reference for the same and no response yet from Star Health Current Policy holding: Corporate Insurane : SI (3L) for 2 Adults and 2 Childs Personal Insurance : SI (25L) for 2 Adults and 1 Child Star Health Suggestion: Take a separate policy for 2nd Child for 5L and it can be added to existing policy in 2026. Please let me know how to proceed further 1. Whether the Separate policy can be taken here or wait until 2026, to add the 2nd child 2. Whether the Star Health was really worth or can I consider for porting in 2026 due to disappointment with above issue Thank you in advance!
Ans: I suggest you go ahead with the separate health policy for the new child as of now. Going further if you still find their service quality level poor you can decide about porting suitably.
