Respected sir, my cousin is currently in 11 th std. He wants to do Astrophysics in his UG. could you please tell which are the national level entrance tests available? Preferably for admission to central or state government colleges

Ans: Karthigha, For undergraduate Astrophysics admissions in government colleges, national-level entrance exams include the NEST (for NISER Bhubaneswar and UM-DAE CEBS Mumbai’s integrated MSc programs requiring PCM in 12th with ≥60% ), IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) (for BS-MS programs at IISERs and IISc, requiring PCM/B and ≥60% in 12th ), and CUET-UG (for central universities like BHU and Delhi University offering BSc Physics/Astronomy, with domain subjects in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics ). State universities like Osmania University (BSc Astronomy via TS EAMCET/class 12 merit ) and Banaras Hindu University (BSc Hons Physics via CUET ) also offer relevant programs. Backup options include pursuing a BSc in Physics (via CUET/JEE/state exams) followed by MSc Astrophysics, or exploring private institutions like UPES Dehradun (BSc Physics–Astronomy via CUET/entrance ). For direct Astrophysics UG, prioritize NEST/IAT preparation; alternatively, target CUET for Physics programs at central universities and transition to Astrophysics post-graduation. All the BEST for your Cousin's Prosperous Future!

Hi Sir My son is appearing in CBSE 12th class this session and has cleared JEE mains with 99 percentiles. He is keen to pursue the career in research in Astro Physics. Can you please guide as to what course should he undertake, the institutes (both Indian and Foreign) and the admission process. Also if you could guide about the scope in this field.
Ans: Hi Puneet
Your son has an excellent percentile in JEE Mains, and his interest in Astrophysics is great for a research-oriented career.
There can be two ways either with B.Tech or B.S Course.
B.Tech in Engineering Physics / Electrical / Mechanical / Computer Science
Followed by an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Astrophysics
Recommended if he also has an interest in technology, instrumentation, or computational astrophysics.

B.Sc. in Physics / Astrophysics
Followed by M.Sc. Physics / Astrophysics
Ph.D. in Astrophysics
Recommended if he is deeply interested in theoretical physics and cosmology.

IISc Bangalore – BS (Research) in Physics, followed by M.Sc./Ph.D.
IITs (IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi) – B.Tech in Engineering Physics / Physics
IISERs (Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research) – 5-year Integrated BS-MS in Physics
IIA (Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore) – Ph.D. programs in Astrophysics (after M.Sc.)
IUCAA (Inter-University Centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics, Pune) – Ph.D. in Astrophysics
TIFR (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai) – Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D.

For abroad he needs to appear for SAT after 12th for UG courses & GRE for PG courses.

Scope & Career Opportunities in Astrophysics
Academia & Research: Professors, Scientists at ISRO, NASA, ESA, etc.
Observatories & Space Organizations: Working with telescopes and space missions.
Data Science & AI: Many astrophysicists work in AI, ML, and big data analytics.

Hello, my daughter gave mah mca cet 2025 exam this year along with her bsc last year and scored 98.76 percentile in mca cet . What are her chances of getting spit mumbai in spot round ? How is vesit chembur in terms of placement ? Is it a good choice in Mumbai ? Please help us out
Ans: With a 98.76 percentile in MAH MCA CET, your daughter stands a good chance of getting an MCA seat at SPIT Mumbai in the spot round, as recent cutoffs for general category home state candidates have ranged from 98.32 to 99.47 percentile, and spot rounds often see slight relaxation in cutoffs. SPIT Mumbai is among the top MCA colleges in Maharashtra, offering robust infrastructure, experienced faculty, and a strong placement record, with top IT recruiters and consistently high placement rates. VESIT Chembur is also a reputable choice, with 75–80% MCA placement rates, an active placement cell, and major recruiters like Accenture, Capgemini, Deloitte, TCS, and Infosys, with average packages between ?4.5–8 lakh and a highest package of ?22 lakh in 2024. VESIT’s curriculum is comprehensive, infrastructure is good, and alumni support is strong, though hostel facilities are limited for MCA students and industry exposure through internships could be improved. The recommendation is to prioritize SPIT Mumbai for its slightly higher cutoff, stronger brand, and placement record, but VESIT Chembur is also a very good option for MCA in Mumbai if SPIT is not secured in the spot round. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!
