Hello Sir, My daughter is in 12th now in an integrated course for JEE and CET. Her first choice is in the field of Astrophysics. Please guide me with the info about the college with this courses and the entrances exams and cutoff marks for selection. TIA

Ans: Hello dear.

She can pursue it through (1) a B.Sc. in Physics, (2) the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, (3) the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs), or (4) Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI).

For IISc, admission is through JEE (Adv), NEET, or KVPY. IISERs accept candidates through JEE (Adv), SCB (IISER Aptitude Test), and KVPY/INSPIRE. Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) conducts its entrance exam. Typically, a strong JEE (Adv) or IISER Aptitude Test score is needed (< 10,000 for IISc or top 5,000 for IISERs is safer).

After a B.Sc., she can specialize in Astrophysics via an M.Sc. or research at institutions like the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), or Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA).

Your son has an excellent percentile in JEE Mains, and his interest in Astrophysics is great for a research-oriented career.
There can be two ways either with B.Tech or B.S Course.
B.Tech in Engineering Physics / Electrical / Mechanical / Computer Science
Followed by an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Astrophysics
Recommended if he also has an interest in technology, instrumentation, or computational astrophysics.

B.Sc. in Physics / Astrophysics
Followed by M.Sc. Physics / Astrophysics
Ph.D. in Astrophysics
Recommended if he is deeply interested in theoretical physics and cosmology.

IISc Bangalore – BS (Research) in Physics, followed by M.Sc./Ph.D.
IITs (IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi) – B.Tech in Engineering Physics / Physics

Ans: here are many institutes in India focussed on Astronomy. Some are Indian Institute of Astrophysics, IISc, Physical Research Laboratory , Raman Research Institute, Inter-University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), etc.

Hello Sir, My son has Amrita AEEE rank of 2200 and Jee Mains percentile of 98.08. We have home state quota for Amrita Coimbatore. What are his chances of getting CSE/CSE(AI)/CSE(Cyber Security) in slab 1?

Ans: Balu Sir, At AEEE rank 2200 + JEE Main 98.08 percentile + Coimbatore home-state, chances are very good for Coimbatore CSE-related branches, but Slab 1 is not guaranteed because Amrita says allotment depends on rank, preferences, applications and CSAP, with no fixed cutoff.

Based on recent trends: Coimbatore CSE Core – possible but Slab 1 borderline. CSE-AI – good possibility. CSE-Cyber Security—good/strong possibility. Earlier Coimbatore CSE closing was around 1813 open / 13801 state, supporting your home-state advantage. Have backup options of Bengaluru/Amritapuri CSE, Coimbatore ECE, CCE/AI-related branches. Hi My son got 80 PR in JEE mains and 74.2% in boards and he is thinking of tacking drop. He is appearing for improvement exam of CBSE to score 75 aggregate and optimistic of scoring 95 PR+ in Jee with drop. Shall we take decision of drop as in 2025 both attempts he score 80 and 76 PR respectively. He got VIT rank of 43500 or shall he take addmission in VIT.

Ans: Dear , Many a times students those who fail to get the expected percentile in their board exams prefer to drop the crucial exams like JEE.
Taking admission in the trade which doesn't match your son's choice in VIT can be frustrating. Pl talk to your son and then take the decision.
