My daughter completed her 12 th icse board science exam having marks 75%, not interested pursuing B.Tech and interested in studying UG Psychology. We are confused what to study her. Kindly advise. What will be the future in Psychology and in job perspective.
Ans: Hi Dilip, it is great to hear that your daughter is interested in pursuing Psychology. Given that she scored 75% in her 12th board exams, she has a solid academic foundation to build on.

Psychology is a diverse and growing field with a wide range of career opportunities. It includes various subfields such as clinical psychology, counseling psychology, industrial psychology, educational psychology, forensic psychology, and more. With increasing awareness of mental health and well-being, there is a growing demand for psychologists in India and abroad in various settings, like- schools, hospitals, corporate offices, and private practices. Studying psychology provides a deep understanding of human behavior, which is valuable in many careers beyond psychology such as marketing, human resources, economics and management.

Graduates in psychology have various career paths available to them. A fresher/beginner earn salaries starting around ?4-7 lakhs per annum, rising with experience. Additionally, psychologists can also pursue roles in HR, academic research, and teaching with varied earning potential.

If your daughter is genuinely inclined towards studying Psychology, encourage her, as a career in psychology can be very fulfilling. Visiting psychology departments, attending workshops, and talking to professionals can provide valuable insights. Practical experience through internships or volunteering will help understand the career path better as well. By exploring areas of interest during undergraduate studies, she can make informed decisions about further education and career paths.
