Hello sir, Im a Lecturer. I often got opportunity to work at very nice n reputed institutions. But, I lost them withinshort span of time. Im good at my work, staff members are also vry haapy with me. Later I found that im not that good in dealing with higher authorities of institutions. I work with dignity n respect. I cant do butterig etc. Guide me.

Ans: I dont know which institutes you visited. were you a permanent faculty or visiting. As far as I understand good teachers are needed and students demand such teachers. All authorities cannot be demanding buttering as you say. Professional colleges go for competence. Yes you need to be polite and diplomatic while dealing with people. Do consider this and do a self assessment that you are not too arrogant. There is a difference between arrogance and self respect.

Hi Mayank,I was going through this article Struggling with your career? and it prompted me to write this email.I am Kalpesh Desai, aged 45, working with an MNC as project manager in Mumbai.I feel I have reached a kind of dead-end and am unable to crack that due to office politics, coupled with my inability to say ‘Yes boss’ everywhere and my poor marketing skills as far as my own work is concerned.I am bad at speaking lies and I am process oriented. This just adds to my woes.I feel I end up being used without getting recognised.Changing jobs seems to be easy option but does not guarantee a better situation in future jobs. Kindly share insights on how to come out of this.Warm regards,Kalpesh Desai
Ans:

Dear Kalpesh,

Many of us face this situation in this stage of our careers.

It’s something I have faced as well.

I can share what I have learnt from my experience; I hope it will help you.

1. Reinvent yourself. Upgrade your competencies; take up some courses in your field from a reputed institute.

2. Set clear goals and expectations with your manager. You don't have to be a 'yes man', but you must be aligned with the goals of your manager and the organisation at large.

3. Have a career discussion with your manager. Clearly express what you are looking for in your career and what help you need from the management.

4. Move out of your core area of functioning. For example, you could move from project management to analytics, strategy or even sales.

5. Ensure that you have a good financial plan to secure the future of your family.

Im 49 years old i worked as a teacher in a private unaided school in Telangana Medchal Mandal for the past 24 years.I started my career in teaching in this school since 1998 -2024 March 15. I was asked to quit the school since the new management wanted to have teachers according to their whims and fancies. I worked for her parents when the parents died the property was divided among her daughters finally the elder one cornered it she didn't want the old staff to work and wanted to appoint new staff. When my old correspondent (her mother) when we asked for PF she assured i can't insure right now because i should have done right at the inception of the school so i promise to pay good will when you leave the school for the service rendered towards the school unfortunately she too died in 2021 then her daughter present correspondent didn't even do any favour Unfortunate thing i worked for such an institution there i had not facilities of PF . I served so loyally for this institution as a token of gratitude to my service.they didn't pay anything. Finding a job in other institution they doubt over long standing experience in one school and owing my age they are hesitant to offer a job i have attended few interviews in school . I'm running pillar to post to find a job to support myself. Im helpless and desperate don't know what to do. Please help mem
Ans: Hello

I can understand what you must be feeling to go through this stage of life.

May I suggest you start with taking private tutions, given your rich experience in teaching I am sure you will make positive impact in the lives of students. Initially you may find it difficult ... but as you take steps...over the period a good path would be laid.

Believe in yourself...I am sure you will do it good.

All the best.

Hi ! I am a multi-skilled professional with specific education in Sports Medicine from USA & experience based skills in Admin & HR. In 1993, i was hired as a consultant in the best health clubs in South Delhi & in 1994 hired as a Consultant to design & manage Fitness Centers by DDA Sports wing, New Delhi. By 1996, my performance in DDA Sports Complexes was considered exceptional & based on my unique contribution I was offered a Sr. Mgr. position, a permanent position by DDA, which I politely declined, as being an entrepreneur in Fitness Industry, I didn't have the mindset for a Govt. Job that time. I did qualify many interviews Sr. position jobs in 5 Star Hotel Health Clubs in Delhi & Mumbai & the biggest Weight Management Centre chain in Delhi from 1993 to 1999, but didn't take up these assignments, as they seemed a cake walk for me. In year 2000, I had applied for Sr. Mgr. position jobs in Hotel Burj Khalifa, Dubai & other 5 stars in middle East, I was conveyed by the HR of these world class 7 star hotels that I qualify technically but need more Managerial Experience. That's how, I landed up management jobs in private Manpower co's in Admin & HR, worked very hard and progressed from Sr. Mgr to CEO positions within 10 years. I am 57 years now (but as Fit as a 30 yr old guy) and currently function as HR Consultant for a major Educational Institution in South Delhi & a few private firms. I want to qualify a Sr. HR position full time in some big private company. But, my resume sent to any big company does not yield any response. Either positions don't open frequently in big co.'s or resumes are never looked at? I fail to understand. By the God's grace, I have never failed an interview in my life, but unfortunately not getting the right opportunity now. Pls. advise further to achieve my dream job.
Ans: Sir, Your age is a major factor, why most companies do not shortlist your Resume or call for an interview to recruit you as a Permanent Employee.

Secondly, through which sources you are applying? Newspapers? Job Portals? LinkedIn? Please fine-tune your Resume and your LinkedIn Profile. Put Job Alerts in LInkedIn for Sr. Position in HR/Administration Department. Keep applying for jobs whenever you get notifications of job vacancies, matching your profile.

You can also try for 'ADVISOR' post for HR Functions (or) try at Manpower Consultant Firms.

All the BEST for Your Bright Future, Sir.
