It was all innocent, my adult son started playing taash during festivals. Initially won, and got hooked. Soon started playing big stakes. Will win, and lose his win. It was very sad, his wife and children left him but he cannot stop, he says. Now I think he is hooked to IPL betting also. I tell him it is not legal but he is not listeniing. Fine, he is adult, earns salary, is spending his own money but he has beocme addicted to it. Is there a help group for gamblers like we have for drunkards and junkies? How to help him kick his habit?

Dear Aruna, Just to brief we live in joint family and I lost my brother (suicidal) 4 months back he had few bad habits including steal the things. He left behind his wife and 2 sons ( 10 years and 6 years). Now my brother’s wife found herself incapable to take care of my nephews who is on wrong track, he stole lot of money and use it for his wish list .I and other family members sits with him no. Of times to make him understand that it’s bad habit and should stop this but still he is consistently stealing money from every corner of house and even some time kinds from home to sell outside. Due to my brother suicidal case we can not even think to force him above a limit..which we have already tried. Kindly suggest appropriate way to Handel him.

I am truly sorry for your loss and may your family heal through this.
There is a reason why your nephew chooses to steal...Does he miss his father and doesn't know how to say it and is asking for attention by stealing? One would never know...

Right now, he is also in grief like the rest of you...but this behaviour cannot go unnoticed.
A lot of love and care for him to bounce back from this loss may help him get back on his feet.
But, if the stealing habit does not stop, kindly visit a child psychologist who might suggest simple behavioural therapies that can eliminate this from the source. This requires an in-person intervention...

My friend is married with 2 children..Thing is even after married with 2 children he is going to prostitute twice in a month.Kindly advice what can be done to come out from this menace.Have been trying to make him come out but still very difficult for him.Have took him to pilgrimage 2 to 3 times a year but of no use.. Your friend is either seeking pleasure outside of marriage as some sort of a kick OR he's running away from his marriage and distracting himself with a sex worker.
Either case, I hope he understands that it's not just about cheating but it's also about what STDs he might be bringing back home. If pilgrimage helped, everyone who has a relationship issue can visit holy places and put things back to what they were.
What is required here is: the couple going into intensive therapy dealing with coping, un-avoidance and moving into resolution and building back.
You are a good friend; kindly suggest this to your friend and he may refuse...but persist...if he still says No, know that you have done your best!

Dear Ma'am, I have a child who studies in 9th Class.He has developed addiction for Mobile Games.He has not much interest in Study.He does not prefer to go tuition classes also and even finds fault with his teachers.He never obeys me and rather talks me back.It seems he has gone out of my control.He gets up late in the morning and awake late light.He prefers to play out with his friends and not ready to name study and always demands one thing or the other. What to do to mend his ways ? I am even running out of funds to support his study in Pvt School. Regards,

Ans: Put him on self awareness and control using some token strategy.
Every right behaviour get him a token and negative behaviour token can be kept back.
When using this strategy, you need to be mindful by giving token only for right behaviour. He can collect it and exchange the same to get a reward from you.

sir , i am 46 yrs with 16yrs of marriage and leading a normal life. I have 2 sons . My elder son is 15yrs (DOB 19/3/08). He is preparing for JEE mains and due to this he attends some additional digital classes apart from college.My problem is recently my son was caught watching porn videos . And when we doubt or tell him to avoid by telling the pros and cons of it ,he gets aggressive. At the ending of his 10th std, he was caught for the first time, but he said it just opened (porn link) by mistake.He was one of the topper in his school for 10th.He is good at academics. He does not have a personal mobile. Now in 11th std,only for online classes he has access to net. But this time i think he has got addicted.How to handle this addiction? And since last 1/2 month he is eating less, sleeping well. I know this is a natural feeling at this age , but he is watching perverted porn sites involving porn games.Please advise.

As much as this seems normal for his age, a bit of experimentation can also lead to addiction. When this has begun to affect focus and concentration, it requires a bit of Intervention.
Kindly approach an Adolescent Counsellor/Psychologist in your city who can assess the situation and do something beyond talk and advising.
What will work is a combination of talk and certain exercises that will cause a break in this habit and instil a better form of channeling outwards and inward.
So, do not hesitate to take that help and guidance. You will thank yourself for it.
