Can I keep my PPF account active till lifetime to enjoy higher interests by investing small amounts and keeping the account active by extending it for five years every time post the initial 15 years initial period?

Also, can I withdraw the interest accumulated yearly from my PPF account?

Ans: Yes, you can extend your PPF for a lifetime in a block of five years every time.

If you are continuing to make contributions after the extension of your PPF account beyond the first 15 years, you can withdraw upto a maximum of 60 per cent of the accumulated amount at the end of the previous renewal period.

Withdrawals are restricted to one per year.

My PPF account is maturing in 2025... 20yrs.... Current amt apx 40lacs.... Can I use it as a pension tool to withdraw only the interest amt once a year and extend the same for NXT 5yrs... My age is 48 yrs now

Ans: The lock in period for PPF is 15years now so you can withdraw it before 20 years as well. You can withdraw a sum equal to the sum given by banks on their investments for day to day expenses if you have retired. If you have not retired and have an active income then keep the investments for them to grow as you technically don't need the money. You can do diversification of this investment and keep it invested in a couple of assets like PPF , equity mutual funds , debt mutual funds , etc.

Hello - My question is similar to the one by Octavio. I am 62 years old and my PPF will be completing the extended 5 year block in March 2024. Can I continue the account without subscription and withdraw the interest deposited in my account every year and keep the principle in tact?

Ans: I would rather suggest something a little more liquid like a BAF fund of agressive hybrid fund where you can start with an swp of 5-6% every year in monthly mode as that will give you some exposure to equity markets and appreciation of capital after inflation effect.

Dear Anil, I am having PPF account since 2011 and I become NRI on October 2019 and was contributing 1.5 Lacs per annum, but as per new rule I am not eligible for further interest on my account, I want to know whether it is advisable to continue PPF account until maturity or should I withdraw it now and parked same amount to some MF/FD. and also if I withdraw it now, shall it be taxable income or not? and even If I withdraw on Maturity shall it be taxable or tax free? Now since no benefit of Interest how can I keep account active if I will wait till maturity?

Ans: Hello;

No need to wait till maturity.

You should pre-close your PPF account and divert funds to other investment avenues.

Yes it will remain tax free premature withdrawal due to change in residency status.

I believe you might have completed the NEET for the second time on May 4, 2025, is that correct? What score are you aiming for? If you achieve a good score, you can aim for GMC; otherwise, consider any of the following courses:

- BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery)
- BSMS (Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery)
- BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery)
- BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
- BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery)
- BNYS (Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences)

All of these courses are quite good.

Regarding your second query: Apart from NEET, you can pursue Pharmacy, Nursing, or Medical Lab Technology (MLT) instead of Biotechnology. Once you complete any of these programs, you are likely to find a job quickly. The order of preference I would recommend is Nursing, Pharmacy, and then MLT.

If you are still interested in Biotechnology, some private institutions offer the course. Before enrolling, it’s advisable to visit the campus and check the infrastructure as well as the syllabus. Many programs focus on botany-related aspects of biotechnology rather than human and animal applications. If you pursue Microbiology, you may have better job prospects.

In addition to health-related fields, you may also consider pursuing agriculture-related courses.

Since you did not provide information about your locality, I cannot comment on the best institutions available in your area.

I'm getting production,civil, metallurgy at pec Chandigarh and IT at uiet Chandigarh. I have interest in tech field but pec has strong alumni network so I'm confused what should I join. I am thinking to take core branches at pec and develop skills by side. Will it be safe for my future career ?

PEC Chandigarh is a reputed institute. It is a good idea to take admission to one of the core branches and then develop the skills by joining either online/offline courses. Many aspirants have completed engineering in core branches with additional skills in the past. But among the three branches you mentioned, Production, Civil, and Metallurgy, in which branch/field you are interested is not clear. Choosing the branch at random will create frustration in the future. You also mentioned that you have an interest in the tech field and may get a seat in UIET Chandigarh. Now, if you have an interest in the tech field, then it would be better for you to prefer a computer-related branch. Focus more on your interests rather than thinking that PEC has a strong alumni network. It would be a wise decision to opt for IT, considering your strong interest in it.

HOW TO CHOOSE HEALTH INSURANCE

Ans: Hello;

You may shortlist health insurers based on following factors:

1. Incurred claims settlement ratio for 3 years atleast, preferable if available for 5 years.

2. List of network hospitals across the country and around the places that you generally operate. The more the better.

3. List of black listed hospitals so as to avoid them.

4. Low waiting period for pre-existing illnesses.

5. Claim settlement through TPA or directly the insurer(better). Also cashless claim settlement feature is desirable.

6. Reputation in the market.(Capital adequacy)

7. List of permanent exclusions

8. No sub limit on daily room rent.

9. Alternative therapies covered(Ayurveda, homeopathy etc).

10. Psychiatric treatments coverage.

Key is to disclose all existing conditions and conduct medical tests as requested by the insurer.

This way the chances of claim rejection are reduced.

You may also consult an insurance advisor if required, for further clarity.

Dear Guru's, I didn't renew my co-operate health insurance for my mom this year, thinking I'll get a private health insurance and my research kept on dragging till now to find one private health insurance..I did find...but suddenly now we have a situation for varicose vein treatment for my mom..now I'm without insurance in the hand....is there anything I can do...my co-operate insurance covers with no waiting period (can only purchase next year apr-2026)..but if I take a private health insurance now after 3 yr the treatment will be covered. I'm stuck now.. wether i should pay out of my own pocket or wait until next year...?

It is entirely your mistake therefore no point in your Mother bearing brunt for the same by suffering with the disease till health cover is back.

Pay it from your pocket. If she is above 70 then Ayushman Bharat Yojana is applicable. If she is above 60 some state govt schemes are there but you need to check with state of her domicile.

Many charitable hospitals may offer treatment/surgery discount to senior citizens above 60 age.

And please do take adequate health care cover for you parents at the earliest.

That’s a really good question. Before going to her place, try to build a mindset of understanding her, without any preconceived notion or pressure to get married. In terms of discussion, to understand emotional compatibility you can observe her behaviour- how she deals with stress, or how she might deal with conflict. Discuss daily life expectations, like what you like to do on weekends, do you enjoy occasional drinking or partying, do you enjoy spending time with friends, family gatherings, disciplined lifestyle, etc. Discuss about each other’s work life balance, expectations from in-laws and any non-negotiables. You should also discuss kids- if they want them, if you want them, and also when. Get clarity on expected living arrangements to avoid any future conflicts. These should be more than enough for a first-time meeting.
