Hi,,I am 45 years old and for the last 6-7 months I have been experiencing irregular sleeping patterns at night, significantly discontinuous sleep after 3 hours of deep sleep.I had suspected sleep apnea but that was ruled out by a doctor.I have tried meditation, melatonin and jaiphal but those only aid in sleep arousal and don't contribute much to continued sleep throughout the night..Kindly advice

Ans: Your continuity in sleep is affected because your quality of NREM sleep(Non rapid Eye Movement) is not good enough to give an undisturbed REM(Rapid Eye Movement sleep). Having early dinner before7 pm , experiencing the body as a wholethrough oil massages twice a week, review of the day as stock taking of the days event will help to sustain your sleep

Ans: You can try going for a walk after dinner, if you tire yourself physically you might sleep better. Try exercising during the day. Avoid stimulants like coffee after early evening.
This of course is generic advice, ideally you should meet a physician who specialises in sleep.

Ans: Hi Swapnil,
Excessive exertion also makes it difficult for the body to relax. I suggest you relax for a few hours without digital exposure before going to bed. Have a bath or at least wash your feet, practice deep breathing, meditation for 15-20 minutes before going to bed. This relaxes the mind so you can get deep sleep, unlike going straight to bed after a hectic schedule. You can also try aroma therapy with natural oils to relax the mind.

I am 42 years old and for last 10 months have been getting only 3-4 hours of continuous sleep at night. Then I can't sleep and waste my time trying to and then feel tired the whole day. I can squeeze another 1-2 hours after 2 hours gap if I have alcohol, but don't want to get dependent. I am able to sleep at 10 pm though and have tried calming medicines like ashwagandha as well but hasn't helped much. Please help as it is causing symptoms of depression in me now.

Ans: Sleep depends upon your general lifestyle if you are having a sedentary lifestyle your sleep pattern will be hampered. Erratic sleep pattern could be a symptom of any mental or physical health issues.
You should visit a naturopath or Ayurveda professional for a proper diagnose to identify the cause rather than treating the symptoms.

Pradeep Kumar Pune I am 79 years old and I retired about 20 years ago. I am quite active and walk for about 45 minutes in the morning and half an hour in the evening before dinner. I am having the problem in having continuous sleep at night. I wake up at least 3 times during the night and get a disturbed sleep on most nights. Please suggest ways to get better sleep during nights

Ans: - Avoid caffeine after 3pm in the afternoon
- Restrict the afternoon nap to max-20min
- Avoid all kind of screens- 1hr prior to bedtime
- Avoid any stressful conversations at bed time
- Avoid rigorous activity prior to bed time
- reduce water intake post 7pm, so there are less washroom breaks
- Early dinner

Sir please clarify are iiit better then iit non core for cse?

Ans: For a student focused specifically on software/tech careers, the top IIITs can be better than lower-demand non-core branches at many IITs, but the premier IIT brand/network still outweighs most IIITs unless the IIT branch is a very poor fit for the student’s interests.

Ans: Try ECE at top NITs (Trichy/Warangal/Surathkal/Calicut/Rourkela) and IIIT Allahabad IT/ECE, IIIT Gwalior CSE/IT, MNNIT Allahabad ECE/EE, and MNIT Jaipur ECE/EE, followed by strong fallback options in ECE/EE/CSE at mid-tier NITs/IIITs. However, keep a close eye on the closing ranks of previous years for more accurate predictions, which will be useful when filling the preference order.

We would truly value your guidance on whether he should consider taking a drop year to improve his score or proceed with admission at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala. Additionally, if he opts for Thapar, we would be grateful if you could advise which branch he should choose, keeping in mind both his long-term career prospects and future growth opportunities. Ans: Taking a drop does not guarantee success. If you can take the risk and have full confidence that he can crack the exam with the required percentile, then tell him to proceed with a drop.

At Thapar, consider CSE/COE > AI/ML/Data Science > ECE > Electrical > Mechanical/Civil, based on his genuine interest and aptitude.

Ans: Your son has a strong chance of getting into either top NITs or top IIITs. Try with NIT Warangal/Surathkal/Trichy CSE if available, then NIT Rourkela/Calicut/MNIT Jaipur/MNNIT Allahabad CSE, followed by top NIT ECE/AI/DS branches as backups

Sir, My son got 94.45percentile Jeemains, Mahindra CSE seat blocked, BITS 220marks Session 1, Manipal 148 marks and board 90%. He is interested in CSE or Maths and physics. What shall we do?

Ans: Kishore Sir, you have not mentioned your son's home state. However, please note that BITS typically requires a minimum of 240–250 marks even for MSc programs and above 290–320 for BE programs, especially for the CSE branch. Based on your son's scores, admission to NIT/IIIT CSE through JoSAA appears difficult; some newer IIITs and GFTIs may be possible through CSAB, mainly in lower-demand branches. Please keep Mahindra-CSE as a safe backup option. Regarding Manipal, MIT Manipal CSE is tough to get, but Mathematics & Computing or other CS-related branches may be borderline—last year’s CSE closing rank was near 5129 and Maths & Computing near 5633. MIT Bengaluru offers better chances for CSE/ECE, with the 2025 CSE closing rank around 11,331. Manipal Jaipur and SMIT Sikkim have very good chances for CSE, ECE, and AI-DS branches. Preference order could be MIT Manipal (Maths & Computing/CS specializations) → MIT Bengaluru (CSE/ECE) → Manipal Jaipur (CSE) → SMIT (CSE). If possible & if you/your son desire, have Thapar also as one of the backup options. Physics is a better option mainly for research-oriented goals; for his interests, CSE or Maths & Computing would be preferable unless he is strongly inclined toward research.
