I am working as a Banker in one of the PSBs . As a scale 2 BM .I have around 5.5 years of experience and was considering alternative career options cause the present job is very much taxing due to frequent transfers and mostly to extreme rural settings. Is the switch to a private bank as BM advisable like HDFC , ICICI , KOTAK etc at my age and experience for around similar pay. Cause I have heard the transfers will be less . I wanted to know the career progression in these banks and the type of work for a BM. And Do people usually switch from govt banks to the private ones after 5-6 yoe?

Ans: I had a student who had similar work ex in PSB. She went on to do 1 year executive MBA from XLRI and now is placed in a good position and good pay in a private bank. There are 2 ways to shift. Good option would be to do executive MBA and then move to private bank or directly move to BM level in which case lack of post graduate degree could hamper future promotions. But your growth in private banks will mainly depend on your performance.
