Can't decide between government exam prep, software course, study for interior design or job search after BE Civil Engineering?

Dr Dipankar Dutta is an associate professor in the computer science and engineering department at the University Institute of Technology, the University of Burdwan, West Bengal.
He has 27 years of experience and his interests include AI, data science, machine learning, pattern recognition, deep learning and evolutionary computation.
Aside from his responsibilities at the college, he also delivers lectures and conducts webinars.
Dr Dipankar has published 25 papers in international journals, written book chapters, attended conferences, served as a board observer for WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination) exams and as a counsellor for engineering college admissions in West Bengal. He helps students choose the right college and stream for undergraduate, masters and PhD programmes.
A senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (SMIEEE), he holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from the Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College and a an MTech degree in computer technology from Jadavpur University.

I am in last semester of BE civil engineering. And I don't know what to do next. My family is suggesting me to prepare for government exam and I am little convinced by it. But I want to do job as I want to be financially independent as soon as possible and support my family. I don't want to be feel like burden. What should I do Go for government exam preparation Or should I pursue some software courses Or should I study further as I have interest in interior design Or should I look for job

Ans: You should not go for software course. If you are looking for job in IT sector, then why are you studying civil engineering? So, two options are these. Prepare for govt. job. If you get that then rest of your will become more peaceful and secure. If you choose to do higher study then you should give GATE and do M.Tech in good institutions with scholarship. In that case you will be financially independent.

hello sir, i am a civil engineer and passed out in 2019, i was preparing for ssc je and not able to clear the exam yet , i dont want to do private job due to more then 12 hours working and no sunday off in construction line, and very harsh condition, i am having a great gap after my engineering, i am very confused what should i do, should i continue my preparation with more dedication and hard work or should i join those private job which i really hated. i am really depressed right now, my parents are also very concern about my career, i really dont know what to do.

Ans: I can understand the peculiar situation that you are going through. My advice is to get over all the negativity and adopt positivity as a way of work and life. As a young man don't shy away from hard work, private jobs offer great challenges and rewards. Civil Engineering is the foundational engineering discipline and lends itself to use of new tools and technologies through use of of software to build structures using design elements that use newer materials to build infrastructure, homes, industrial townships that further sustainability. Look at acquiring project management skills and explore opportunities with optimism and passion.

Sir i am a civil engineer graduate 2023 i did my graduation in civil engineering from a tire 2 -3 college from mumbai university . I didn’t get any job its not like that i am dum student or else i was not good at studies u definitely found partility that in civil they took all diploma + degree holders with less knowledge also in companies such a worley , godrej , technimont etc mnc companies with salary of 6-7 lpa but sir i was scattered because i lost my dad in covid my mom is working but her salary is just 50k and now after trying out for jobs as fresher i found a job in IIT bombay as project technical assistant which gives me 30k but its in ocean department. Now i want to learn further i am seeing people doing masters from priavte university like nicmar adani symbiosis etc in construction or infrastructure management. I am stuck jn life what to do im trying for government but i know government junior engineers job wont pay me much to buy home for my mom . In such case what will be best please help

Ans: I fully empathize with your situation. Do focus on the positive of having completed BTech in Civil Engineering. Civil Engineering is the foundational engineering discipline and lends itself to use of new tools and technologies through use of of software to build structures using design elements that use newer materials to build infrastructure, homes, industrial townships that further sustainability. Use your current Tech Asstt job to learn about Oceanography as an added skills. Look at acquiring project management skills and explore opportunities with optimism and passion.

I am 64 yrs old retired person, having worked for 11 years in a private firm from Feb 1998 to Sept 2008. There was no UAN no introduced at that time. After leaving, I withdrew EPF contribution, however towards contributions to EPS I received Pension Scheme certificate for drawing pension after attaing 58 yrs. I attained 58 yrs in Oct 2018, but didn't apply for pension & neither for Scheme certificate with arears. I worked in 3 more private companies for less than 10yrs in each company & withdrew PF contribution after leaving. Finally in Oct 2020 I retired from the last company after putting in 9.5 yrs service with a UAN no. & claimed back the PF & Pension contribution made during the tenure. Please advise as to how i can claim back my EPS Scheme Certificate along with the arears for the period 2018 when I attained 58 yrs till date & also regularize monthly pension. Kindly guide & help, as i am in severe financial crisis but since last 2 years running pillar to post for assistance, but failed.

I was duped of some 8L rs by fraudster and had completed the legal process where in court has ordered indusind bank and bank of Maharashtra to refund me money which is held by them..it been more than month since order was issued still no update is available from bank regarding credit back of the amount in my account.what next I should do..

Send a reminder notice to the banks seeking time bound implementation of the Court order.

Either they may be preparing to appeal against the lower court order or it may be just a case of procedural delay.

Await their feedback before escalating to the court.

My loans have crossed 40 lakhs and i dont have job. I dont know what should i do as i do not have any money to pay back. I am taking loans to repay interest for old loans.

Ans: Hello;

Sell some of your asset like land, gold or vehicle to repay the loan on priority.

Don't borrow to repay existing loans. Restructure the loans or seek a moratorium till you get a job.

Borrow funds from family and friends explaining your mistakes and promise to repay once you get another job.

Keep in mind the old saying to cut your cloth as per your size and act accordingly.

Ans: With 98 percentile in JEE Mains and OBC-NCL category, you have a very good chance of getting a seat in NITs for CSE or ECE. However, the exact NIT and branch will depend on the JoSAA cutoff ranks. See previous years' cut off

If I failed in class 12 in one subject this year. but passed in jee mains. can i still give advanced? considering that I will pass boards in compartment exams with minimum of 75%. Compartment will be in July and its result gets declared in August. Even if im eligible, wont it affect my councelling process. as it is in june july only?

You are eligible for JEE (Adv) and there will be no effect on the counseling process provided that you must fulfill all the criteria laid by the IIT institutions.

Through joint development agreement with developer,new flats after construction are provided to landowners in lieu of 30% of land provided to developer .There is no cost involved to the owner.What will be tax implications including capital gain for landowner?

Ans: Landowner is liable to pay Income Tax for the portion he is surrendering to the builder. Sale Consideration will be considered as value of developed area on stamp duty rate, you have retained after its Redevelopment.

Ans: Yes. You are liable to pay Income Tax for the portion you are surrendering to the builder. Sale Consideration will be considered as value of developed area on stamp duty rate, you have retained after its Redevelopment.
