My son is in IGCSE school and opted for Science. He will appear for his 10th board and post that is not clear on what to do. He is an above average student doing fairly good in Maths and Biology. Physics and Chemistry are litter weaker. He will be scoring around 90% in his boards thats what I believe. Need further guidance.

Ans: Hello
The areas in which one is good does not necessarily mean one has interest in or one should pursue.
The suggested way is to figure out areas of interest. That is your best shot at excelling in long term/having a career of choice. Yes there is no perfect science to guide for actual interest/aptitude but personal career counselling may prove effective and will be a good idea if a person wants help in decision making process. Trial and error may prove costly in something as vital as a career decision.
Feel free to ask further.
All the Best!

My nephew has appeared for class 10 exam from CBSE this year. He wanted to pursue research and be a scientist but is now confused about his stream. He is good at math, analytical skills but doesn't like biology. Should he opt for science or commerce? Would CA or commerce be a good option for him?
Ans: Thank you for the question. In my understanding, your nephew enjoys Physics and chemistry. Research in these areas can also be taken. We dont need to take biology as a subject he he does not enjoy studying that subject.
If his science scores are consistently high and he likes exploring newer areas of learning, research can be a very good avenue. Since you say that his analytical skills is good and he is good at math too, you can look at computing sciences, applied mathematics, data sciences and Design engineering. Please note, computing sciences is slightly different than computer science. Applied math and Big Data is an upcoming area of study and with good analytical skills, he should be able to do that.
Research can be done in any area. One must understand that research is "finding, critiquing, analysing sources of information and rationalising to investigate a particular scenario". Now this can be done in any field - from history to molecular genetics.

Based on the information you have shared here, I wold suggest he keeps his science options open and opts for PCMC in his 11th and 12th. He can focus on building his analytical skills by participating in high school research groups and learn ways to investigate data.

My son is doing his XII Standard in CBSE Curriculum with Maths,Physics, Chemistry and Biology as his group. He is yet to decide on what next after XII with his mind wavering between Astro Physics or Micro Biology with NEET in mind. Any guidance is welcome.
Ans: Hello Srinivasan.
I am glad to hear that your son is exploring diversified fields at this early stage. Astrophysics and Microbiology both are fascinating and rewarding paths, but they differ significantly in terms of the career options and the type of studies involved.
My suggestion for your son would be to focus only on the NEET examination at this stage. There is no need to divert the mind without any reason at this stage. After the NEET examination is over, you have ample time to discover more career options along with Astrophysics and Microbiology. The inclination toward career options of a student changes multiple times during the 11th and 12th. If he is brilliant, a hard worker, and dedicated to his studies, then set a goal of Min 650 marks in the NEET examination.
For Astrophysics: Focus on excelling in Physics and Maths in XII. He can apply to top institutions like IISc, IITs, or IISERs for B.Sc. programs.
For Microbiology: Prepare for NEET if he wants to take the medical path. Otherwise, he can explore a B.Sc. in Microbiology at a reputable university.

Best of luck for his future career and upcoming NEET examination.

My son is 12th appearing for his board exams right now. He has scored 96.5 percentile in JEE January attempt. He is planning to give second attempt in April and also JEE advanced. Actually his percentile went low due to Maths in which he scored 70. Physics and Chemistry he scored above 98 He really likes studying Physics. What branch can he opt for in future??
Ans: Congratulations to your son for achieving a 96.5 percentile in his JEE-Main examination. (Based on his score of 96.5, his rank may be approximately between 4200 and 4700 (as you have indicated in single decimal). Here are some highly effective strategies and recommendations for your son: He should concentrate on weak topics and questions answered incorrectly in his mock and practice tests from his coaching center. It is essential to keep revising and practicing those chapters and topics. He should continue to revise Physics and Chemistry as well. He can begin practicing questions from the JEE-Advanced exams of the last 20-30 years. As nearly all the chapters of PCM are addressed in his Coaching Centre, he is able to effectively and strategically manage the preparations for both his Board exams and the JEE-Main-April Session as well as JEE Advanced. To determine which National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and branches she might be eligible for, consider the following steps: Identify Preferred Branches: Discuss with your daughter to understand his interests and preferred engineering disciplines. Check JoSAA Opening and Closing Ranks of 2024: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) provides detailed information on the opening and closing ranks for NITS and branches. To access this information: Visit the official JoSAA website. Navigate to the "eServices" section and select "Opening and Closing Ranks 2024". Input the desired parameters such as counseling round (preferably the last round for comprehensive data), institute type (e.g., NIT), specific institute names, academic programs (branches), and your daughter's category. Review the displayed data to identify institutes and branches that align with his percentile and preferences. For a broader perspective, consider exploring opening and closing ranks from previous years, which can provide insights into trends and help set realistic expectations. While his current score is commendable, it's prudent to have alternative options. Encourage his to appear for additional entrance examinations to keep multiple pathways open. All the Best for your Son's Prosperous Future.

Tech Careers and Skill Development Expert - Answered on Dec 05, 2025

Dear Sir, I did my BTech from a normal engineering college not very famous. The teaching was not great and hence i did not study well. I tried my best to learn coding including all the technologies like html, css, javascript, react js,dba, php because i wanted to be a web developer But nothing seem to enter my head except html and css. I don't understand a language which has more complexities. Is it because of my lack of experience or not devoting enough time. I am not sure. I did many courses online and tried to do diplomas also abroad which i passed somehow. I recently joined android development course because i like apps but the teaching was so fast that i could not memorize anything. There was no time to even take notes down. During the course i did assignments and understood the code because i have to pass but after the course is over i tend to forget everything. I attempted a lot of interviews. Some of them i even got but could not perform well so they let me go. Now due to the AI booming and job markets in a bad shape i am re-thinking whether to keep studying or whether its just time waste. Since 3 years i am doing labour type of jobs which does not yield anything to me for survival and to pay my expenses. I have the quest to learn everything but as soon as i sit in front of the computer i listen to music or read something else. What should i do to stay more focused? What should i do to make myself believe confident. Is there still scope of IT in todays world? Kindly advise.
Ans: Your story does not show failure.
It shows persistence, effort, and desire to improve.

Most people give up.
You didn’t.
That means you will succeed — but with the right method, not the old one.

Dating, Relationships Expert - Answered on Dec 04, 2025

Relationship
My married ex still texts me for comfort. Because of him, I am unable to move on. He makes me feel guilty by saying he got married out of family pressure. His dad is a cardiac patient and mom is being treated for cancer. He comforts me by saying he will get separated soon and we will get married because he only loves me. We have been in a relationship for 14 years and despite everything we tried, his parents refused to accept me, so he chose to get married to someone who understands our situation. I don't know when he will separate from his wife. She knows about us too but she comes from a traditional family. She also confirmed there is no physical intimacy between them. I trust him, but is it worth losing my youth for him? Honestly, I am worried and very confused.
Ans: Dear Anonymous,
I understand how difficult it is to let go of a relationship you have built from scratch, but is it really how you want to continue? It really seems to be going nowhere. His parents are already in bad health and he married someone else for their happiness. Does it seem like he will be able to leave her? So many people’s happiness and lives depend on this one decision. I think it’s about time you and your BF have a clear conversation about the same. If he can’t give a proper timeline, please try to understand his situation. But also make sure he understands yours and maybe rethink this equation. It really isn’t healthy. You deserve a love you can have wholly, and not just in pieces, and in the shadows.

Hope this helps
