Hi, I am currently into Market Research field, to be specific quant research. I am an engineer and MBA by educational qualification. After that I pursued consultancy kind of roles in energy sector and lately shifted to market research in FMCG. Unfortunately I dont feel adequate and successful in any of the roles, and there's also a job crisis ongoing due to which I am not even able to get a switch. I like creative kind of things, have a knack for writing and introvert kind of person. Please suggest what should I do get a better switch in this tough job market and be atleast somewhat successful in my profession. Is there any course I should pursue. I like the FMCG sector but don't like the quant part. Thanks and Regards

Ans: Since the job market is tight continue in your job for now. In the meantime you can pursue something that would lead you to the role that you want - either doing a part time course or getting involved with the creative side that you want to pursue. Once you feel you have enough interest in the field you can then look at switching your job.

Sir, I want to know the name of the specific courses, which will benefit me. I like proposal and report drafting kind of things. My written communication skills are quite good. Apart from that I used to be good in biology but never pursued that line of course. Currently FMCG, biology/healthcare/pharma also interests me. What part time course should I pursue that will land me a good job.
Ans: Anything to do with Digital Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Content Creation, etc.

sir, i am 43 yrs old, completed my bachelors in Mechanical engg and doctorate from NIT. Presently, working in a private university with research and academic roles and responsibilities. With the interest of students in this domain has gone down drastically during the past few years, can you advice for a change in career like Data science etc as my present ctc is less than 8 lpa
Ans: Even though a career switch from a Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering to Data Science represents a transition that aligns with the growing interdisciplinary nature of modern research and industry I am of the view that you need to build on your years of academic experience in Mechanical Engineering by leveraging your doctorate in Data Science to further your career as a researcher professor in academia by contributing to cutting-edge research, guiding students, and shaping the field through your expertise.
Also explore consulting assignments in companies, especially in engineering and manufacturing, to help them use data science for optimization, predictive maintenance, and process improvement.
By wearing a Data Scientist in Engineering or Manufacturing hat marry your mechanical engineering background with data science skills look for roles that involve analyzing and optimizing engineering processes, designing experiments, and leveraging data for product development.
These are just two out of a host of options that you could explore by helping your university to build strong consulting practice and let your client see value and pay the top dollar. When that happens, the University will find ways to compensate your fairly for your value add.

Hello I am working in a psb from last 8years. Currently i am holding manager position in the bank and want to switch in profile other than finance . I m graduate in statistics and have no active skill in IT. In which sector i can move ahead . Also in Finance is there any other department which is more inclined to the new updated technology and skill that we can develop to switch.
Ans: Thank you for getting in touch with me on Rediff Gurus. Given your background in statistics and experience in banking, there are several sectors you could consider transitioning into that leverage your analytical skills and managerial experience. You could explore roles such as data analyst, business analyst, or data scientist, where you would use statistical techniques and analytical tools to derive insights from data and inform business strategies. Your managerial experience could be beneficial in roles such as operations manager or operations analyst, where you would oversee and optimize operational processes for efficiency and effectiveness. You could also explore opportunities in fintech startups or established fintech companies, where you could contribute your expertise to develop and implement cutting-edge financial solutions as well. Additionally, within the finance sector, there are departments that are increasingly adopting new technologies and skills, providing opportunities for growth and transition.

In terms of finance departments that are more inclined to new technologies and skills, areas such as financial technology (fintech), quantitative finance, and financial analytics are increasingly adopting advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, and big data analytics. By developing skills in these areas, such as programming languages (e.g., Python, R), data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Tableau), and understanding of financial markets and products, you could position yourself for roles that are at the intersection of finance and technology.

Ultimately, the key is to identify your interests, strengths, and career goals, and then explore opportunities that align with them. Consider networking with professionals in your desired field, gaining relevant certifications or qualifications, and seeking out mentorship or guidance to support your transition. With your background and experience, you have valuable skills that can be applied in a variety of sectors and roles beyond finance.
