I am a commerce graduate, working as a manager under my uncle in his organisation for over 8 years. Recently he hired an MBA and has asked me to train him for the job I am doing. Since then, I have been feeling insecure about my status here. He is paying me Rs 45,000 per month and the MBA fresher is earning Rs 75,000. Should I pursue an MBA or look for another job? How do I discuss this with my uncle?

Ans: Let's tackle this with a clear head and a practical approach:

1. Reflect on Your Goals:
Take a moment to think about what you want out of your career. Are you happy where you are, or do you feel like it's time for a change?

2. Consider Your Options:
Think about whether further education or exploring new job opportunities aligns better with your career goals and personal aspirations.

3. Talk to Your Uncle:
Have an honest conversation with your uncle about how you're feeling and what you're thinking about for your future. He may have insights or ideas that could help you make your decision.

4. Negotiate if Necessary:
If you decide to stay with your current job, consider discussing your concerns about salary and responsibilities with your uncle. It's okay to advocate for yourself and ensure you're being fairly compensated for your work.

5. Explore Further Education Wisely:
If you're leaning towards pursuing further education, research your options carefully to find a program that fits your needs and schedule.

Remember, there's no rush to make a decision. Take your time to weigh your options and choose the path that feels right for you and your future. You've got this!

I am managing a subsidiary of my father's business which I was hesitant to join but because of family pressure I had to. My relationship with my father is not very good so once a while I got to hear things which hurt my confidence and self esteem as I am reminded that I am nothing without his support. I admire a father's support to his children but putting it bluntly in insulting manner takes away its beauty. I am 35 and I feel that if I carry on like this I would be a man with no confidence and zero self esteem in next 5-10 years, my perception of a future is very depressing. Prior to joining this business, I had worked in several startups of mine for 5 years, so I can say, I got zero corporate experience. Now, I want to know if I look for a job at this stage will I be accepted? and what job options can i go with? I m ready to do internship without any expectation of reimbursements. Plz help me.
Ans: It sounds like you are in a difficult situation, and it's understandable that you're feeling discouraged and lacking in confidence. It's important to remember that you have skills and experience from your previous work in startups, and those can be valuable in the job market.
If you're interested in looking for a job, I would encourage you to start by updating your resume and reaching out to your professional network to see if anyone knows of any opportunities. You could also consider working with a career coach or job placement agency to help you identify potential job options and prepare for interviews.
As for what job options you could pursue, that depends on your skills and interests. Some options could include roles in marketing, sales, customer service, or operations. You could also consider pursuing a job in a field that interests you, such as technology, healthcare, or finance.
Finally, it's important to remember that there is no shame in starting out in an entry-level role or doing an internship to gain more experience. This can be a great way to build your skills and confidence and open up new opportunities in the future.
Whatever you decide to do, make sure you're taking care of yourself and seeking support from friends, family, or a therapist if needed.

My father & uncle started business 50 yrs back. I have joined 30yrs back. I kept working from 9 am to 5 pm under Uncle. Now around 2011 ,Uncle son joined .Till then everything was alowed & fine except core part was not allowed to handle by Uncle. After 2011, slowly my cousin started taking operations of factory under him . When I protested ,Uncle used to say he will see ,but did nothing about that. AlthoughUncle is genius as well as my Father ,but my Confidence started tumbling after 2019. When his son (lets say A) made whole work force according to him & I was cornered .As challenge I in 2020 started some operations to complete production & it run well until 2022. But they (Factory staff) introduced as if I was buyer of those components. It kept on untill uncle showed the debt as in lacs for me while he getting all support for his production from Everyone &My father tensed but doesnot retaliate. What should I do?
Ans: Dear SK,
Well, you need to build your territory and being a family business, boundaries have never been clear...It seems obvious that your uncle favors his son over you and your father does not want to ruffle feathers by standing up for you...then you stand up for yourself.
What position that you have earned through your hard work must be acknowledged...if it isn't and it's going to lead to a family rift, then maybe it's time for you to build something for yourself by expanding the business within or outside. It is difficult to balance relationships within the family and at work; somewhere emotions come in the way of doing what is right and just. So, play it safe and start looking at how you can expand your work profile and enhance what you can bring to the business exclusively through your skill sets. This helps pass a message down the organization as to you being an expert in that particular area. If this fails, well...let yourself shine where you can and must...

All the best!

Hello Sir..i m 33 yr engineer mommy to 2.5 yr daughter..want to do an MBA from tier 1 college. After graduating i was lecturer in engineering colg hv 2 years of experience n after that working in govt Bank from past 7 years. Gave CAT twice but time constraint n toddler was not able to crack.last year got finalised for NMIMS hyderabad but dint took admission as away from mumbai n not that great bschool.going to give cat this year as ladt chance but i m very very confused n stressed that should i go for it or not, m having age barrier ,a growing kid, offc n home work pressure, managing all this i could hardly make time of 2/3 hrs to study with low energy..i thought of executive mba but was thinking doin executive taking so much risk wil actually land me where? Also as d growing age n 9-5 job health hampers sometimes with backaches n end of day i think that is my decision really worthy, shud i really go fr it or settle wid what i hv, in short m trying to jump from comfort zone to competitive world where i il b having colleages 10 yrs younger n smarter than me..but i get a kick wn i c womens sparking high.can u plz guide me sir taking my decision?
Ans: I believe instead of looking for 2 year full time MBA course, try for Executive MBA course from some of the top IIMs or XLRI or ISB. You would have to write the GMAT which requires less amount of preparation as compared to CAT. Minimum work experience required for doing Executive MBA is around 5 years. So the others would also be of similar age.
