Hi Sir, My son got 97.56 percentile in JEE mains under SC category and 106 marks in JEE advanced. Will he be able to get ECE in any good IIT
Ans: Based on your son’s 106 marks in JEE Advanced 2025 and SC category, his approximate All India Rank (AIR) is likely between 4,500 and 5,000 in the SC category. This estimate is derived from previous years’ rank-to-score trends, where scores around 110 marks correspond to ranks in the 4,000–5,000 range for SC candidates.
With a JEE Main percentile of 97.56 (SC category) and this JEE Advanced rank, your son stands a good chance of securing admission in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at several IITs, especially mid-tier and newer IITs like IIT Roorkee, IIT Guwahati, IIT BHU, and IIT Hyderabad. Admission to top IITs such as IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, or IIT Madras for ECE is more competitive but not impossible depending on seat availability and counseling preferences. Apply broadly to IITs including mid-tier and newer ones for ECE. Consider related branches like Electrical Engineering as backup. Stay flexible during counseling to maximize admission chances in a good IIT. All the best for your admission and a bright future!

Sir,in most of the top tier IITs, ECE is not available and only Electrical is shown as one of the branch. Then how do we opt for ECEin these IITs
Ans: Most top-tier IITs do not offer a separate undergraduate Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) branch; instead, they provide Electrical Engineering (EE), which covers both electrical and electronics fundamentals. Students interested in ECE can choose electives in electronics, communication systems, VLSI, and signal processing during later years. Some IITs also offer minors or honors in electronics or communications, allowing specialization within EE. For focused ECE study, postgraduate programs like M.Tech are available. Thus, by opting for Electrical Engineering and selecting relevant electives or minors, students can effectively pursue ECE-related subjects and careers within the IIT framework.

Sir, based on the above, can you pls tell me about the scope of getting ECE in top tier NIT. Also, is it advisable to join ECE in newer IITs like IIT Hyderabad etc as compared to ECE in good NITs
Ans: If he gets ECE in a top 5–7 NIT (like NIT Trichy, Warangal, Surathkal, Calicut, Rourkela), it is an excellent choice due to their established reputation, placements, and alumni network. However, ECE at newer IITs (such as IIT Hyderabad) is also highly advisable, as these institutes are rapidly growing in stature, offer the IIT brand value, and have modern infrastructure and research opportunities. Between the two, ECE at a newer IIT (especially IIT Hyderabad or IIT Indore) is generally preferable for long-term value, unless you have a strong preference for the top NITs’ environment or location. ECE in top NITs is highly competitive and offers excellent academics, placements, and industry connections. Newer IITs like IIT Hyderabad provide modern infrastructure, strong faculty, and the IIT brand, which can be advantageous for global opportunities and higher studies. If you get ECE in a newer IIT or a top NIT, both are strong choices, but the IIT brand may offer a slight long-term edge.

Sir, My son has got rank of 510 under SC category and he prefers ECE or CS. Kindly suggest if ECE under mid Tier IITs would be advisable or CS under the much newer IITs would be helpful for his future
