If quarterly interest payments of SCSS is an issue then an FD with a Govt bank or a very big private bank paying monthly interest is also okay.

Immediate annuity from a life insurance company could also be a decent option because it provides regular income for longer periods with option of joint(both husband and wife) annuity for life with return of purchase price to the nominee, after them.
