Sir, If we invest in Suzlon Energy at Rs 24.30 present level is it advisable? I would like to invest 2.30 lakhs.My friend has invested Rs 3.15 lakhs

Hello, I will turn 57 in a few days' time and my wife is 53. We are both salaried professionals and our respective organizations have covered us handsomely with regard to health insurance coverage. However, just to ensure security, I was wanting to know whether it is worthwhile to take additional health coverage for the time when I would no longer be working. I am not sure if I should take another base policy covering both of us, or only a top-up policy over and above our current insurance cover given by our employers. Can you guide me on which policy would be the best for us? I am looking at Rs.10 lakhs additional cover.

Ans: Hello;

You are absolutely right.

You must have healthcare policy covering both of you, other then the one provided by the employer.

I would recommend to buy higher healthcare cover(25-30 L). Right now this may seem redundant and a waste of money but both of you are on the verge of retirement.

New insurer will have 2 to 3 year exclusion for pre existing illnesses, if any.

After 60 typically people come across lifestyle or such other diseases so it's always better.

Seek help of an insurance advisor for proper selection of policy. He may also help in case of claims, if any.

I’ve been focusing primarily on IT and banking stocks but am interested in diversifying into specialty chemicals. With SRF and Navin Fluorine showing such strong performance, are these stocks a good starting point?

My view is agri chemicals segment will perform better than the specialty chemicals segment in the long run.

Having said that, SRF is a well diversified chemical behemoth and may be considered for long term horizon(7 yr+).

I am planning to invest in SBI life smart privilege ULIP with 10 lakhs p.a. and 5 year lock in period as it is suggested by a friend but i have came across a thread in your website where many members got very low or modest returns in same plan. Should i consider this plan or not? I have gone through various charges to manage pplicy also which are very high but policy managers ensures reversal of charges after lock in period ends like 1% FV on 6th yr, 2.5% FV on 10th year. And to inform you i have already one life insurance cover policy from Max life insurance, So is it worth to invest in Sbi Life smart privilege plan now?

Never make the mistake of mixing investment and insurance.

The annual premium that you are planning to invest(10 L pa) will require you to pay LTCG tax on maturity as per new rules.

If you already have a sufficient life insurance cover then I suggest you to avoid this ULIP and invest in NPS, mutual funds(both equity and debt), gold and real estate for your other goals.
