Dr Chandrakant Lahariya......I am 73 yrs old diabetic ,from the last 10-12 days my fasting sugar has increased suddenly to 240-250 from 120-130....I am taking Metformin 1000 ,Glimepiride 2mg and 100mg Septaglyptin everyday ...kindly advice as to how I can bring my fasting sugar down.THANKS

Ans: Hi Vasant Ji,
Please check whether you have done any change in your diet. Please check your blood sugar levels 2 hr after breakfast and pre lunch and pre-dinner. That will provide a profile of blood sugar levels.

A comprehensive blood check up including HbA1c, lipid profile, liver function test and information on your weight and height and BMI will help me in guiding the treatment. You might benefit from insulin as well

I am 70 years old and my fasting sugar is 124 to 150 I take istamet 50/500 in the morning and glycomet SR 500 in the evening along with istamet 50/500. How can the level be decreased further, please reply

Ans: Lifestyle diseases need to be addressed through lifestyle changes to tune with the rhythm of life.No amount of external agent can do wonder alone.So please look at what comes to your stomach and what activities burn them.even stress can keep your sugar elevated.Stress cannot be avoided ,but i am sure one can choose where do i choose to meet it

Hi I am RV 54 years of age Male. I was detected with Type 2 Diabetes in July 2019. Since then I changed my diet, increased exercise, took care of sound sleep & stress and took Metformin 500 mg once at night. My type 2 diabetes has reversed and since July 2022 I have stopped Metformin 500 mg of my own as my sugar levels well drastically falling. I am still on restricted diet.I have got blood tests done every 3 months ( last done in June 2023 ) and except for Fasting Sugar, all results are perfect. My Fasting Sugar is in the range of 100 to 109. I know that I am suffering from Down Phenomena. I would be extremely grateful for your expert advice to bring the Fasting Sugar in the target range of 80 to 90 mg/dl.

Ans: If you are experiencing Dawn Phenomena, make sure to monitor your blood sugar levels especially in the evening. Eat dinner earlier in the evening and avoid late night high carb snacks. You can consume a high-fiber low-fat snack before bed to prevent the dawn phenomena. Almonds with plain or turmeric milk, nuts, milk with basil seeds are some examples. These items will control the blood sugar and keep your liver from overproducing glucose.

Ans: Your reports are good. Fasting sugar is not high.
My advise would be to have early dinner before 7 pm

Sir i am diabetic from last 20 years i am taking medicine but fasting sugar does not come in control and comes as 175-180 however random readings and after 2 hours sugar readings are well in control around 135-145. sir suggest what to do

Discuss your fasting blood sugar levels and any other symptoms you may be experiencing with your family physician. Focus on a balanced diet with whole grains, lean proteins, and vegetables. Avoid table sugar, honey, jams, fruit juice, and candy. Limit white bread, sweets, fast foods, alcohol, chocolates and processed foods. Regular physical activity can help regulate blood sugar levels.

I have taken a policy from SBI Life insurance Retire Smart plan. The policy is for 10 years with a premium payment for 5 years. I have taken the policy in February 2020 and with this month 5 yearsare completed. Now, I want to come out of this. How can I come out with minimum loss.? Can I surrender or close?

Ans: Hello;

Even if you surrender now you can get 60% of your fund value, after deducting charges, and for the balance 40% you have buy an annuity from SBI Life.

This is as per terms and conditions mentioned in the brochure of this plan.

With 97.7 %tile, under OBC-NCL, female category, she may get admission in one of the NITs but not surely in Trichy. You may have to compromise the NIT and branch.

For the All India Quota (AIQ) in NEET, only the central OBC-NCL list is considered. If your OBC-NCL certificate is from your state but your caste is not in the central OBC list, then it will not be valid for AIQ reservations. If your caste is in both the state and central OBC lists, apply for a central OBC-NCL certificate to use it for AIQ in NEET.
