Hi Doctor, I am 52 years old male. I am hypertensive and on three medicines( Telmistran-D,Ln block 20,Nebicard 5 since last 15 years. I am not diabetic . My blood pressure some times goes high even with meds on and also remains in normal range with the same medicines.My weight is 86 Kg. I want to reduce these medicines.I remain gastric also.I have to take Pan D 15 days a month.My blood results, LFT etc are good. In the past I used to drink but since last 5 years it is nil or in moderation.I have a tendency to get stressed easily. Please help.

Ans: Hello.. my suggestion for you tomorrow is weight reduction, meditation, low salt diet and brisk walking everyday for minimum 30 minutes will help you to reduce your medication dose. Compliance and doing all this on daily basis will show you results in 3-4 months

Dear Dr.Hadge, I am 58 years old, non alcoholic & non smoker. My recently conducted StressEcho is found negative. Moreover, I am a daily walker (5 km in 50 minutes) and very limited intake of salt. To control hypertension, I am on Metaprolol(25 mg/evening) and Telmisartan (20 mg/morning). Also taking Thyronorm(25 mch) and atorvas(10 mg) daily. On the advise of Cardiologist, I have reduced dose of Telmisartan to 20 mg (earlier it was Telma-H/40mg) however still experiencing low BP (some time in the range of 100-60). Please guide how to mange BP and Cholesterol for a long term. Also guide how to avoid occurrence of any cardiac complications since we have genetic history (paternal side) of cardiac arrest/death.

Ans: With your doctors advice you may discontinue telmisartan. Get cholesterol checked and treated with meds if necessary. Moderate level aerobic exercises like walking at brisk pace swimming cycling for 30 min atleast 5 days a week and 1 or 2 15 min session of mod level weight training are recommended for most people. Diets should be rich in whole grains fruits vegetables seeds pulses and legumes and devoid of processed sugars like aerated drinks, low Fibre items like bakery products, red meat and high fat dairy products, junked and packed foods with restrictions on salt and oil use during preparation

age 45 height 5'8 weight 84 work is office and late night works . yoga and walk is regular /. since 6-7 months bp in range of 132-92 or 134-94 when check randomly do advice ways to reduce as dont want any medication . no alcohol i take . no spices /very less salt smoke 4-5 cigrattes a day consulted coctor he prescribed bp medicine and told to eat for few months but im afraid to eat as dont want compuslive medicine . do help

Ans: Cigarette smoke has many chemicals, in it
Most of them has a constricting effect on blood vessel, which can impact the heart through the strained blood vessel which gets further brunt from border line fluctuations. So quit smoking
Opt for breath regulation practices which can regulate the circulation thereby addresses High BP
