Sir my son scored 96.52 percentile in MHCET and is only interested in mechanical engineering.. thru MET he has got in Manipal main campus .. is there any hope to get thru COEP or VJTI or any other best college for mechanical in any rounds and also would you recommend it over manipal udupi..please help

Ans: Soumyaa Madam, With a 96.52 percentile in MHT CET, your son has limited admission chances to top government colleges like COEP and VJTI for mechanical engineering but strong opportunities in several reputed private institutions. COEP's mechanical engineering cutoff for the open category in 2024 was 99.23 percentile, while VJTI required 99.05 percentile for mechanical engineering in 2023, making these government institutes unlikely options. However, excellent private alternatives include Pune Institute of Computer Technology with mechanical engineering cutoffs around 95-96 percentile, DJ Sanghvi College of Engineering (cutoff 95.5-96.24 percentile), Sinhgad College of Engineering (Mechanical first shift cutoff 65.04 percentile), Sardar Patel Institute of Technology, and Vishwakarma Institute of Technology. COEP mechanical engineering achieved 78.98% placement rate in 2023, while VJTI recorded 77% overall placement rate for B.Tech students in 2023-24. Manipal Institute of Technology's main campus mechanical engineering delivers 77% placement rate in 2025 with an average package of ?11.76 LPA and secured seats through MET with a cutoff rank around 6,000-7,000.

Recommendation: Accept Manipal main campus mechanical engineering for its consistent 77% placement rate and strong industry connections (If the location is suitable for your son, please also check the refund policy for any fees you have paid, in case you decide to withdraw the seat later); simultaneously apply for PICT, DJ Sanghvi, and Sinhgad colleges through MHT CET counselling as these offer better proximity, lower fees, and comparable placement opportunities compared to top government colleges that remain out of reach at your percentile. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!
