I am to retire in May 2025 and my daughter will complete her 12fth by then. She wants to pursue a ug in Law from abroad. Can we(the parents of the student) stay with her while she graduates?

Ans: Hello Krishna,

To begin with, thank you for contacting us. I am happy to hear that your daughter will be completing her 12th grade after which she intends pursuing an undergraduate degree in Law overseas. To answer your question first, I would like to tell you that the regulations of the university as well as the nation in which the education will be provided, both play a key role in determining whether parents can stay with their child while he/she completes their undergraduate degree overseas. Remember, universities do not offer any special accommodations for parents to live on campus or at residence halls for students. Nevertheless, during their trips to assist their child, parents can typically visit and reside in neighboring lodgings, viz., rental apartments or hotels.

I would recommend that you take into account not only the visitor and accommodation prerequisites of the particular university, but also the visa requirements of the nation in which your daughter intends studying. Although it may not be possible for parents to reside with their child during the entire duration of their course/education, visiting them during breaks or locating housing nearby might still allow for valuable parental support during this pivotal period.
