Hello sir. My son just got B tech Mechanical engineering in NIT Rourkela. Please advise the pros and cons of this on the basis of placements and institution standsrds....
Ans: Shanmuga Sir, NIT Rourkela, ranked among India's premier engineering institutes (NIRF 19th, QS Southern Asia 78th), offers a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with a strong national reputation, accredited by NBA and NAAC (A). The department is distinguished by well-qualified faculty, comprehensive core curriculum, and modern, well-equipped laboratories—ensuring students are exposed to the latest academic developments and practical skills. Peer and alumni reviews consistently highlight the supportive faculty, vibrant campus life with diverse student clubs, and an ecosystem that encourages research and extracurricular engagement. In terms of infrastructure, the campus boasts a state-of-the-art library, digital resources, numerous hostels, cafeteria, sports complexes, and convenient amenities—including round-the-clock Wi-Fi and health facilities, with labs and project spaces considered excellent even by national standards. Placement for Mechanical Engineering at NIT Rourkela has remained robust: departmental placement rates for the last three years are between 78% and 92%, with the average placement figure for 2024 in mechanical-oriented sectors being competitive with leading NITs, and core jobs in manufacturing, automotive, energy, and consulting making up a significant share of offers. The manufacturing sector, in particular, is the top recruiter, and internships with industry leaders are common, though reviews note that paid internships on campus can be competitive and off-campus searching may be needed. Students praise the academic rigour, but point out challenges such as strict attendance policy, occasional old-school approach in teaching, mess food and maintenance issues, and regional disparities in club participation. However, the high rate of successful campus placements, significant alumni presence in top companies (including core and diversified roles), and strong faculty-student interaction underscore its value. The five core strengths—national accreditation, experienced faculty, modern infrastructure, strong campus placements, and industry connections—are all credible and consistently maintained, with the institute partnering with over 1,300 recruiters in 2024.

RECOMMENDATION: NIT Rourkela’s Mechanical Engineering program is an excellent choice, offering a reputable degree, high placement rates, robust industry connections, and a vibrant campus ecosystem. Opt for this institution if your priority is a well-rounded, future-proof engineering education supported by national recognition and broad career prospects in both core and allied sectors. All the BEST for Your Son's Prosperous Future!

My daughter failed in class 9th and now she has enrolled in NIOS secondary . There is lot of free time . What can she do keep herself busy?
Ans: Before I answer your question, Vikas Sir, I want to ensure that your daughter doesn't spend more than 45 minutes a day on her phone or other electronic devices. If your daughter becomes addicted, she risks eye strain, headaches from blue light, poor posture, weight gain from inactivity, sleep issues from late-night use, and eating problems. It can also hurt her mind by making her depressed and anxious (27% more likely), making it difficult to concentrate and study, making her feel lonely and isolated from less real interaction, making her feel low self-esteem from comparison traps, and making her stressed and irritable from dopamine crashes.

Even if both parents work, keep communication open to boost her confidence—know what she loves. She should study 4-5 hours daily using NIOS books/SWAYAM and Class 10 mocks with the Pomodoro technique (25-30 mins study, 5-10 mins break) to stay focused. Add 30 minutes of skills like coding/typing or Duolingo English if interested, plus 10 minutes of yoga, hobbies (gardening/cooking/drawing/poems), and walks/cycling for fitness and fun. Finally, join NIOS WhatsApp groups for doubts and help at home and track weekly goals with rewards. Don't force anything—let her choose what excites her most! All the BEST for Your Daughter's Prosperous Future!
