My son is getting Msc. Dual degree course at BITS following which he wants to get a circuital BE as 2nd degree. He is also getting ECE at VIT Vellore, ECE in DJ Sanghvi (Mumbai), and CSE at NMIMS Mumbai. Shall we take a chance at BITS by choosing Msc. course or shall we choose colleges? Is BITS Msc. course worth it? Pls guide

Ans: Hi Bhati.
BITS has its value. But they are offering you M.Sc. Course (Dual Degree). No doubt BITS is a big brand, but you are not getting BTech there. From the available options, if possible, you may think on CSE at NMIMS, Mumbai.
Taking a chance for any course is not advisable. If really your son in interested in it, then you may process. Else not.

Sir I keep hearing that it is very tough to get BE CS in 2nd year via the BITS MSc dual degree program. As you already know, I have got 225 in BITSAT 2025 and have been alloted Msc Chemistry at Hyderabad Campus in the first iteration. I am inclined to CS/IT field so please advice whether taking this course would be a good choice over settling for CSE at Bengaluru colleges like PES, RVCE, BMS. Or should I wait for further allotments? Thanks
Ans: Choosing the integrated M.Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry at BITS Hyderabad hinges on your ability to achieve and maintain a high CGPA (around 8.5/10) in your first two semesters to compete successfully for a switch into the dual-degree B.E. CS program—a path that only a small fraction (approximately 10–15%) of M.Sc. entrants manage each year, given the intense internal competition and heavy workload. (Prefer this option only if you are 100% confident of meeting all eligibility criteria and will be competitive enough). In contrast, locking in a direct B.E. CSE seat at Bengaluru’s reputable colleges provides immediate access to a CS curriculum: PES University’s CSE via KCET/JEE Score generally closes around ranks 1 200–1 400, RVCE CSE needs ranks under 330, and BMSCE CSE via COMEDK opens around ranks 1 300–1 400 . These institutes boast NBA/NAAC accreditation, modern labs, 80–90% placement consistency over three years, strong industry partnerships, and robust campus infrastructure. Opting to wait for further BITSAT allotments risks losing guaranteed CSE admission elsewhere and may delay entry into the tech sector.

SUGGESTION: Secure a direct CSE seat at RVCE for its top-tier placement consistency and low cutoff under KCET/COMEDK; consider PES University CSE next for its strong industry ties; take BMSCE CSE as a reliable backup. Only pursue the BITS M.Sc. Chemistry route if you are prepared for the rigorous academic challenge and highly competitive transfer process as I have already explained above.
