Sir during our 4 years of engineering how can we develop our skills which are required for placements and future. Since AI Is developing day by day and is replacing humans which is reason for many people losing their jobs and in future very less number of jobs. Could you please tell how can we develop our skills independent on the engineering college in which we are studying

Ans: Take part in inter college events like hackathon that could help develop your skills in IT. Do courses in Data, AI, ML beyond what is taught in college. Also develop your personality by getting involved in extra curricular activities in college.

Ans: Skills to be Developed in College:
Strong Fundamentals: Master core subjects like programming (Python, Java, C++), data structures, algorithms, mathematics, and engineering principles.
Project-Based Learning: Take advantage of labs and project work—real-world applications will deepen your understanding and showcase your skills to recruiters.
Internships & Industry Exposure: Apply for internships, research opportunities, or collaborations with companies to gain practical experience.
Communication & Soft Skills: Being able to explain complex ideas clearly, work in teams, and present your ideas is crucial.
Campus Placements & Networking: Participate in career fairs, company recruitment drives, and workshops to get early exposure to employers.
Stay Updated on Technology: Follow trends in AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and blockchain. Sites like Coursera, Udemy, and edX offer great courses.
Develop Problem-Solving Skills: Participate in hackathons, coding competitions, and open-source projects. Websites like LeetCode, CodeChef, and HackerRank help sharpen problem-solving.
Build a Strong Portfolio: Work on independent projects, contribute to GitHub repositories, or develop apps and websites to showcase your work.

Career
I am a retired professional with 35+ years of experience in cement industry and power electronics and embedded systems production.I am working as a freelance consultant.I am an electronics engineering graduate with experience in electrical and instrumentation in cement plants,in addition to power electronics and also emebedded systems production.I want to develop myself in AI.please guide me how shall I proceed ? Thanks.
Ans: Here’s a simple step-by-step path you can follow to get started in AI:
1. Start with Python – Since you have a technical background, learning Python will be easy. It’s the main language used in AI. Use beginner-friendly platforms like Coursera or Udemy.
2. Learn AI Basics – Begin with the basics of machine learning (ML), which is a core part of AI. A good course is Andrew Ng’s ML course on Coursera.
3. Explore Practical Tools – Learn tools like TensorFlow or PyTorch (for ML models) and basic data handling using Pandas and NumPy.
4. Focus on Projects – Try small hands-on projects like predictive maintenance (can relate to your industry), image recognition, or control systems using AI. This will bridge your domain knowledge with AI.
5. Join AI Forums or Groups – Connect with AI communities, maybe even ones for professionals in engineering fields. You’ll learn a lot from discussion and real problems.
6. Optional: Certifications – If you want formal recognition, go for AI certifications from IBM, Google, or Microsoft.
Since you’re already a consultant, you could eventually apply AI to industrial automation, fault detection, or predictive analytics in cement and power sectors.
Go step by step—don’t rush. Even 1 hour a day will help you grow steadily.

Sir I have an obc rank of 11663 and crl 39982. Getting Nit patna ece/Nit rkl Chemical or civil /Nit Jamshedpur EE and ME /Nit durgapur chemical/Manit allahabad core department I want to get a good college life and hence interested in joining Nit Rourkela but as my rank is not that good I am getting civil ,mme, mining, ceramic there . Should I join it or look for other nits with not that much exposure?
Ans: HI AISHA,
GREETINGS FROM REDIFFGURUS!

You are expecting to have a good college life. However, I don't fully understand what constitutes a "good" or "bad" college experience. They don’t teach life skills in college; rather, it’s how you behave during this time that matters. If you act improperly, it could lead to negative consequences.

Studying in college can be compared to a train journey: having a first-class or second-class AC coach is certainly preferable. To secure a spot in a better coach, you need to achieve good grades in school. Your academic performance will determine your rank and, consequently, the programs or branches available to you. If you don’t meet the requirements, you might have to either retake exams or enroll in whatever core courses are open to you.

To increase your job employability, you can pursue additional online programs such as data science or cybersecurity. It seems you are more focused on Rourkela rather than the specific programs available. This suggests that you might just be looking to pass the time.

If you belong to ODISHA, then there are possibilities for Chemical (chances are more being from the home state).
Electrical/Electronics might be possible in special rounds. IS THIS OK FOR YOU?

So don't worry, do participate in the counselling process till you achieve your target.
