Preferred institute types (NIT, IIIT, GFTI)
Preferred locations (or if you're open to any location in India)
List of at least 3 preferred academic programs (branches) as backups (instead of relying on just one option)

If you shift him to the CBSE board for 10th class, then he might face some problems related to teaching method, examination pattern, etc. But if you have some problems related to your job or are thinking of shifting from your existing place to a new place, then shift your son to CBSE 10th class or if your son is unable to keep up with the syllabus of ICSE, then also shift him to the CBSE board. Now, talking about the future, there will be no effect either a student passes from CBSE or ICSE.
