Sir, I haven’t been able to file my income taxe return for the year 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 . Due to some unavoidable issues. So how do I go about it Please advise Thanks and regards

Ans: Taxpayer can file an updated return if he has not filed original return. Updated return can be filed after paying an additional 25% of the tax and interest due on the taxable income (if the updated return is filed within 2 years from the end of the financial year). However, additional tax will increase to 50% if updated return is filed after 2 year and within 3 years of the financial year.

I have a typical requirement of filing a revised return for AY 21-22. Due to some addition information my pension in FY20-21 is becoming non-taxable. I submitted return before due date of Dec 21 due to covid; same has been processed and I have also got refund claimed. How can I now file a revised return for same? Kindly elaborately suggest the steps and method to file revised return for AY 21-22.

Ans: Time limit for filing a Revised return for FY 20-21' AY 21-22 was 31^st March 2022. Hence, now you cannot file revised return for claiming additional exempt income. However, in case of substantial amount of refund, it is advisable to file condonation application with jurisdictional Commissioner of Income Tax who can allow you to file revise return if reason for non-filing of correct income tax return is reasonable/genuine.

Hello Sir, My father retired in the year 2000 and his source of income was on Pension and some MIS not coming under any Tax bracket. He has been filing all his ITAX upto the FY 2020-2021 i.e. upto March 2021. He passed away in June 2021. I am getting message (as my phone was registered in with I Tax Deptt) to file returns. Please advise what is to be done ?

Ans: It is advisable to compute income and check whether income is below minimum exemption limit.

In addition to that there are certain cases, wherein return is required to be file even if income is below minimum exemption limit like; if TDS or TCS exceeds Rs 25,000, A person must file an income tax return if they deposited at least Rs. 50 lakh in one or more savings accounts during the previous year etc

Dear Sir, I have not able to file return for AY 2022-2023.But I have deposit due tax of AY 2022-2023 through clear tax.com which they are showing during filing return but found afterwards that i don't have any tax liability of AY 2022-2023 after seeing my FORM no. 16. My company deducted 13000 & deposited to Income tax authority. when i consult for refund of amount from Clear tax .com. They replied that we have given money to Income tax authority & it is showing in your account. we cannot refund the money. My bank account is debited with Rs20000. what can i do now. please advice. if you have any mobile no. or email id please share. Thanks & Regards, Manish Kumar Kharagpur West Bengal.

Ans: During the filing income tax return, if person forgot to claim amount of TDS or tax paid, same can be claimed by filing revised income tax return. However, due date for revision of the income tax return for AY 2022-23 was 31.12.2022.

Due date of filing of revised Income tax return of AY 2022-23 is 31.12.2022 is over. what can i do now because money was not refunded by Income tax authority as I did not have tax liability for above AY which was deposited money by mistake from me on 31.12.2022 . Ans: As per income tax circular 9/2015 for CONDONATION OF DELAY IN FILING REFUND, The Principal Commissioners of Income-tax/Commissioners of Income-tax (Pr.CsIT/CsIT) shall be vested with the powers of acceptance/rejection of such applications/claims if the amount of such claims is not more than Rs.10 lakhs for any one assessment year.

Power of acceptance/rejection of the application will be subject to satisfaction that it is the case of genuine hardship on merits and necessary inquiry in made to ascertain the correctness of claim.

Hi Sir, I have been abroad for the past two years and came back only two months ago. Hence I was not able to file the IT returns for the year 2021-22. How do I proceed to file for that year. Anyhow I have filed IT returns for the next year that is 2022-23.

Ans: Updated return u/s 139(8A) can be filed within 2 years. However, updated return can not be filed if it is nil return or loss return or for claiming refund.

Chances with NITs are slim, but you can aim for IIITs (Kota, Dharwad, Bhagalpur) or GFTIs like BIT Mesra IT in the CSAB Special round.

Hi sir, I am drop year student in JEE. My rank this yr was very bad due to which I have very limited options like through JEE I am getting Central University of Jammu, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi university katra, and In pvt I have options like IILM University gr Noida, SRM ktr main campus( They are asking for extra 2 Lakh for direct admission). Is it worth to join SRM(ECE) by donation or I should prefer other cllg.I am getting Acharya Institute of Technology in Bengaluru too through direct. I am interested in ECE branch. Is there any other options other than these.Please tell me as I don't have much time left. Thank you.

No doubt SRM KTR is a decent option, but it is not recommended to pay an extra 2 lakh for it unless you are solely interested in SRM KTR for its brand name. Acharya Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, is a good choice for ECE and offers better industry exposure than many private tier-2 colleges. Among your current options, Acharya Institute is a balanced choice unless you're willing to wait another year. If not, avoid high donations and choose decent colleges with a reasonable ROI.
Our suggestion: Prefer Acharya Bangalore
