Dear Anil, My IT Returns were filled twice last year due to error in the amount of Refund due to me. The IT department initially refunded the amount due as per the revised Returns, however after some time, to my surprise they again refunded the balance amount as per the original Return. Please guide me to return the excess amount back to the IT department. Thankyou, Warm Regards.

Ans: It is likely that refund is granted to you as required details are not shown correctly in Income Tax Return. Thus, it advisable to take help of tax consultant, identify the reason for wrong refund and file rectification application with Jurisdictional assessing officer.

Sir, I have filed my IT return on 26th July 2023 where the refund was Rs.66000/- I have filed a revised return on 28th July 2023 with a refund amounting to Rs.112000/- Today i.e on 9th August I have received refund of Rs.66000 as per my original ITR file but not as per revised ITR. Kindly guide how to get the refund as per revised ITR filed by me.

Ans: Please wait it out a bit. The revised ITR also needs to be processed (hoping that you would've e-verified it too) and then only the balance of refund will come. If you don't get it in say 15-20 days, then head over to your IT website login and put the details in the Grievance tab.

Dear Sir I have filled ITR and there is refund 15003 I filled ITR on 02 July and did not E-verified due to Pan Card Blocked by Govt so after file ITR i sent its signed copy to Bangalore on 3 July that showing verified on 10 Aug and i Have paid 1000 on 12 Aug to link pan card and Aadhar card and got linked then i received mail on 12 Aug evening to E-verify return but there was no option to E-verify return . today is 09-08-2023 but we have not received refund yet Please suggest right process 2-3 days back i have complained in grievance of ITR .Please suggest right process . status on Dashboard showing Return Filed on 2 july and Return verified on 10 July only .....

Ans: ITRs can be filed without having the Aadhar-PAN link completed; however, such ITR filings would render the user ineligible to avail refunds and interest on such tax refunds till the time PAN is linked with Aadhar.
• After e-filing your return, you must verify it. Your return filing process is not complete unless you do so.
• The timeline for e-verification of returns filed after 1st August 2022 is 30 days from the date of submitting the return.
• As per the IT department, if the ITR filed is verified (electronically or by sending ITR-V to ITD) before the time limit of 30 days, then the date on which the return was filed will be considered as the date of furnishing ITR.
• In the offline verification case, the speed post-dispatch date of the duly verified ITR-V will be taken into account to determine the 30-day period starting from the day the income tax return was electronically transmitted.
As per the data provided by you, your return has been verified within the timeline of 30 days. Normally, it takes 20-45 days for the refund to reach you after filing and verifying your ITR but your Aadhar and PAN got linked on 12th August. The delay in refund is due to it.

We suggest you wait for some more time and regularly check the “My Pending Action option” in your income tax account portal.

Dear Sir, I filed my DAD's (since deceased last year) IT returns as a Representative and there are Refunds due. However his banks accounts are closed and refunds are failing. Now I tried to request for Refunds/Reissue with my Validated Bank Account (where my ITR refunds are credited). But refund to my Bank AC is also failing also with message bank account not validated. Grievance has been raised in IT Portal many days back, but no response. Please advise how to proceed on this. Thanks in Advance

Ans: •Generally, it takes 20 to 45 days for the refund to reach you after filing and verifying your ITR. But there could be multiple reasons that you have not received a refund.

•Firstly, you have to check whether the Income Tax Department has processed your ITR. You will get a refund only after your income tax return is processed. You can check the status of your ITR on the e-filing website of the Income Tax Department.

•To get an ITR refund, your bank account should be pre-validated. In case the bank account is not pre-validated, you will not receive a refund.

•E-verify your income tax return to get a refund. As per the latest rules, you need to verify your ITR within 30 days of filing it. So, if you haven't e-verified your return, you will not be eligible for an ITR refund.

•Your income tax refund can also be delayed if you have any outstanding demand pending from the previous financial year. If there is any outstanding demand pending, then your income tax refund will be adjusted against that demand.

I filed the ITR of my spouse Asha A Kucheria for AY-2023-24 well before the due date which had a refund but to my grief and utmost surprise, the said refund had been adjusted against a demand related to AY-2011-12, Sir, Is it any way justifiable, how come the IT Department takes action after such a long period of more than a decade. Ans: Income tax provision does not provide any timeline within which tax dues can be recovered. However, you can check section under which demand is raised, intimation/order is passed within given timeline under the act.

In many cases, it is observed that demand notice along with intimation u/s 143(1)/154/143(3) was served to taxpayer physically as well as through e-mail. SMS are also sent after sending said notice/intimation. Reminders are also sent.

Please make sure that e-mail id and mobile number mentioned in PAN as well as at income tax portal is active and you regularly check that.

Given his rank, securing a CSE seat in NITs may be challenging, but admission to ECE in some NITs and CSE/IT/ECE in several IIITs is more realistic, especially during the later JoSAA and CSAB rounds. Consider applying to IIIT Una, IIIT Kottayam, IIIT Dharwad, IIIT Kalyani, IIIT Bhagalpur, IIIT Raichur, IIIT Manipur, and IIIT Agartala. For ECE, newer and mid-tier NITs and IIITs are good options. The CSAB special rounds are crucial as they fill vacant seats after JoSAA. Ans: Admission to top NITS/IIITs seems unlikely. You can try lower-ranked govt colleges/IIITs or state colleges for CSE, or consider other branches in NITs via CSAB.

You can consider applying to IIIT Kurnool, IIIT Manipur, IIIT Dharwad, IIIT Raichur, IIIT Bhagalpur, IIIT Kalyani, and various GFTIs. Ans: You can try PEC Chandigarh through JAC Chandigarh separately, not JoSAA. Through JoSAA/CSAB, fill IIIT Una, IIIT Sonepat, IIIT Kalyani, IIIT Bhagalpur, IIIT Manipur, IIIT Raichur, IIIT Dharwad, but CSE/ECE may mostly depend on CSAB vacancy movement. You must have backup options of JAC Chandigarh, HSTES Haryana, Punjab colleges, IPU Delhi, Private Universities, and State counselling. Ans: Chances with South NITs are slim. You may try for lower branches in lower NITs. Yet the chances are on the borderline. Better to keep an alternative option open.

Ans: At CRL 25,624, General male, Telangana HS, Mechanical is a realistic target. NIT Warangal Mechanical may be difficult in regular JoSAA, as recent HS Open Mechanical closing ranks were around 15k–17k in early 2025 rounds and around 15k in 2024 Round 1. Better Mechanical options: NIT Calicut, NIT Rourkela, NIT Durgapur, NIT Patna, NIT Raipur, MANIT Bhopal, VNIT Nagpur, NIT Jalandhar, NIT Silchar, plus CSAB round. Also consider NIT Warangal Metallurgy/Chemical/Civil. dditionally, please review the JoSAA opening and closing ranks from the last 2-3 years to gain further insights and better understand admission trends.
