Should a 65-year-old male with borderline high LDL cholesterol for 22 years consider medication?

Hi Doctor! I’m 65 plus yrs. male, weighing around 73kgs. My LDL cholesterol remains in boarder line high since last more than 22 yrs, in YOY blood tests. Total cholesterol is always normal with normal HDL, VLDL and triglyceride. My 2D Echo test done last year shows absolute normal pattern. BP mostly normal within 128/88 and no medication. HBA1C varies between 5.8 - 6.2 all these yrs and no medication. Fasting sugar varies between 95 - 105 all these yrs. I have minor xanthoma on both eyes over the years those almost remain same without any change. Kindly suggest if any medication is needed or should I go ahead as usual

Ans: No need for any medication
But always cross check your result from a different lab once in a while.
What is the cause for Xanthelesma?

Ans: These readings point towards early stage fatty liver. Kindly look into your lifestyle and see where you can work and fine tune
The most important are early dinner before 6/6.30 pm and light dinner with no animal protein and fat. Increase your phtsical exercices too

Dear sir my total cholesterol is 148.7, HDL is 36.2, LDL 87.13 VlDl 25.37, triglycerides 126.86, CHOL/HDL ratio is 4.11, non HDL Cholesterol 112.5, LDL/HDL ratio is 2.41. I am 54 year old. My HDL is low. Please advise whether I need to start medication.

Ans: To bring up HDL exercise is an effective option
Brisk walk 30 mts five days a week or High intensity interval training program as prescribed by lifestyle or Fitness medicine specialist will help

Ans: LDL and HDL are both a little elevated. You will likely need a statin but it would help to understand if you have any other risk factors.
