My age is 59 years. My Fasting blood sugar was 120 to 140, PPBS was 160 to 200, HbA1C was 6.4 to 7.00. At the time of my ankle surgery and after, I've been taking Metformin Hydrochloride Prolonged Released 500mg once a day for the last 10 months. With this medication, my FBS has been 126 to 142, PPBS 155 to 170, HbA1C 6 to 6.4. Should I discontinue and stop the above medicine ?

Ans: Hello. It is best to continue. You are still in the high prediabetic range per HBa1c and there is long term benefit to controlling the sugars tightly for another 10-15 years for you.

My age is 51 yrs . Recently I have been detected diabetes with HBA1C of 6.7..doctor has asked to take diabetic diet along with metformin 500 mg once daily.. should I need to take the medicine or life style change is sufficient to reduce to the blood sugar level..?

Ans: If this is the first time you are detected with Diabetes, then please give it a honest try in your lifestyle modifications for three months and repeat blood sugars
If controlled then there is no need to take medications

I have prediabetic stage at current age 47 years with 85 kg weight. My doctor has given prescription of metformin 500g daily one. Should I continue to take or to stop and after 3 month should done FP HBa1c test.

Ans: Keep a regular follow up with periodic blood checks, initially after 3 months then may be every 6 months until it is under complete regulation

Dear Doctor, I am 66 years male. I had a fracture on my left knee and surgery was done and am ok now. But getting up from the chair pose some problem. also i feel some pain in the Hip joint [Right side] .It pains more when I sneeze. Usually as a physio we do not prescribe medicines. So please ask your general physician to advise you regarding the calcium and the dosage required for you. Also check with him if you require to take Vitamin D3 and B12 supplements too as they are also important.

I have to look for clients ready to invest abroad.they will give commission in my account,but if client insist then I have to give some amount to the client. It can be cash or cheque. Capital gain tax on sale of ancestral property. 1940 my father has got some ancestral property which purchased on 1930 and the same has been distributed among our family members 2 years back. I got my share 2 years back and now I want to sell the same. At present we don't know the purchase value of the property purchased on 1930. Please advise me how to calculate short term/Long term capital gain tax and how to utilise the capital gain tax to purchase new property or house/flat

Ans: It will be taxable as Long term capital gain. You have to get fair market value as on 1.4.2001 and after applying indexation on said value you can derive at amount of capital gain.

To save tax on long term capital gain; you can invest gain amount to acquire house property and get exemption u/s 54. As per section 54, if you want to buy a residential house property from long term capital gain from sale of house property then you must buy the residential house property 1 year before or 2 years from date of such transfer of shares or construct the house property within 3 years from date of transfer of such property.

Sir can anyone please help me understand tax harvesting procedure in MF (SIP) , If I invested ?300000 lumpsum in A-MF which gave 12% returns in 1year total value would be 336000 if I sell this corpus after 366th day my investment is tax free(LTCG- MY RETURNS

Ans: It depends on type of scheme (equity or debt based scheme).

Short Term or Long Term depends on period of holding. Debt based scheme are always short term and taxable at slab rate. Equity based scheme are long term if it is sold after holding for 12 month or more. Long term capital gain on equity scheme is taxable at NIL rate upto 1 lacs of gain.
