My son is pursuing Chemical Engineering from UBC, Canada. What is the scope of Chemical Engineering and should do a MS or MBA afterwards?

Ans: Hello. First and foremost, thank you for connecting with us. It is good to hear that your son is pursuing chemical engineering at UBC, Canada. Let me tell you that chemical engineering is a dynamic yet versatile field that has a broad range of career opportunities across various industries. Graduates from a reputed institution like the University of British Columbia (UBC) can expect to find roles in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, energy, environmental engineering, biotechnology, food and beverages, and materials science, among others. The job roles include process engineer, research scientist, project manager, quality control engineer, and consultant. Coming to the decision of whether to pursue a Master of Science (MS) or a Master of Business Administration (MBA) depends on your son’s interests. If your son is passionate about deepening his technical expertise and engaging in research and development, an MS in Chemical Engineering or a related field would be the most suitable path for him. On the other hand, if he aspires to have a career in management, lead projects, or become an entrepreneur, an MBA would provide the necessary skills and knowledge. It is advisable for your son to consider his long-term career objectives early on, jot down his goals and interests, weigh down the ultimate choice, and possibly gain some work experience before making a decision. Both pathways have their own unique advantages and rewarding career paths.
