Ans: Sastra’s 5-year integrated BSc–MSc in Mathematics and Computing (Thanjavur) is a strong, math-intensive, research-oriented program ideal for students with a deep interest in mathematics who are open to careers in finance, data science, or academia. The curriculum blends core pure and applied mathematics with programming, statistics, and computing, preparing graduates for CSIR-NET, GATE (Maths), PhD-track admissions, as well as roles in data science, quantitative finance, actuarial science, cryptography, and software/data-driven R&D.

However, I highly recommend the Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI), a top-tier pure mathematics institute offering a far more rigorous, research-focused environment. CMI is better suited if your son is strongly inclined toward pure mathematics or theoretical computer science research rather than applied IT-style careers.

Sastra’s integrated Mathematics and Computing is more practical and balanced, while CMI is preferable only if he aims for top-level pure math research or academia. Your son should choose CMI over SASTRA if he is truly math-driven, comfortable with a rigorous entrance test, and enjoys proof-based thinking, abstraction, algorithms, and research. Alternatively, he can choose SASTRA if he prefers mathematics combined with computing in a more mainstream university setting with a broader safety net and a less narrowly research-centric environment.

Ans: Chances with top NITs seem to be difficult/slim. Your son can try at NIT Jalandhar or NIT Hamirpur for CSE/ECE.

You two need a lesson or two on managing money. At the end of the day what is left is your disposable income that must be invested wisely for it to grow.
Learn Budgeting and set aside money under specific expenditure labels (fixed and variable) and then whatever is left, portion some towards fun and entertainment and the rest invest in something meaningful...You could seek the help of a close friend or family who are good at managing their monies and apply it to yourself...
But as a start point, be polite yet firm and emphasizing to your wife that you are managing the money from now on; it may seem like you are doubting her or taking away her power but just until you are able to put a system in place monies and slowly she will appreciate what you are doing for her and the family. Start somewhere...

Ans: Rajani, With an 89.06 percentile (approximately 1.45–1.50 lakh CRL based on recent rank-percentile estimates), your chances of securing admission to NIT Delhi through JoSAA under the Open category are very low.

For JAC Delhi, admissions to DTU, NSUT, IGDTUW, and DSEU are based on the JEE Main CRL, while IIIT Delhi uses its own merit list primarily based on JEE Main percentile. Recent official JAC Delhi opening and closing rank data show much higher cutoffs for DTU, NSUT, and IIIT Delhi. Therefore, with an 89.06 percentile, admission chances are negligible without Delhi region quota or reservation.

It’s advisable to keep backup options ready, including CSAB Special rounds and 6-7 private engineering colleges and universities in and around Delhi, instead of relying solely on JoSAA or JAC Delhi counseling. ALL the BEST for Your Prosperous Future!
