My son got 99.20 pc in jee main '25. Pl advise cse in lower NIT or Electrical in higher NIT. 1st choice CSE. (HT - W Bengal) . Thanks.

Ans: Sir, With a 99.20 percentile in JEE Main 2025, your son has strong chances for admission in NITs, especially with home state reservation in West Bengal. His first choice is Computer Science Engineering (CSE), but he is considering Electrical Engineering in a higher-ranked NIT as an alternative.

CSE in Lower NITs: Lower-tier NITs like NIT Silchar or NIT Agartala have higher closing ranks for CSE, making admission very likely with his percentile. However, these institutes may have fewer industry connections and slightly lower placement packages compared to top NITs.

Electrical in Higher NITs: Top NITs such as NIT Trichy, Warangal, or Surathkal have very competitive CSE cutoffs, but Electrical Engineering cutoffs are relatively lower. With his percentile, your son can secure Electrical in a top NIT, benefiting from better infrastructure, faculty, and placement opportunities. Electrical offers diverse career options and good industry demand, though average packages are generally lower than CSE.

Recommendation: If your son is passionate about CSE, opting for a lower NIT to fulfill his first choice is reasonable. However, if he values campus quality, exposure, and placements, Electrical in a higher NIT is a strong alternative. Flexibility in branch choice during counseling can maximize admission chances and career growth. All the best for your son's admission and a bright future!
