Dr Dipankar Dutta is an associate professor in the computer science and engineering department at the University Institute of Technology, the University of Burdwan, West Bengal.
He has 27 years of experience and his interests include AI, data science, machine learning, pattern recognition, deep learning and evolutionary computation.
Aside from his responsibilities at the college, he also delivers lectures and conducts webinars.
Dr Dipankar has published 25 papers in international journals, written book chapters, attended conferences, served as a board observer for WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination) exams and as a counsellor for engineering college admissions in West Bengal. Hi, my son is doing btech in Chanakya university Devanahalli Bangalore in CS specialization in AI in second semester I need some career guidance for him as he is confused whether to go abroad ( Europe or UAE ,can u also pls suggest few countries where he could land a good job and make a career ) taking loan for MTech in AI or persuing Mtech in india he is interested in courses of 1) AI , 2) Data science with AI .pls suggest few other latest courses for skill development or for his career growth Or to go to Dubai for work experience after completing his btech which is better for his career and future overall growth . please guide .

Good day Dr Dutta! My son is in 10th standard (State Board) and is looking for career choices to undertake next year onwards. I have heard about Degree courses offering specilisations in AI, Data, Machine Learning etc. Can you enlighten me a bit if these have scope in the future and which would be an apt course for him to pursue (which will have scope in India and abroad as well?

Ans: At this point he should concentrate on class 10 syllabus. Then class 12 syllabus. He should take solid preparation for JEE main and advance. After securing good rank he can contact me. I will tell what to do.

Sir with due respect, I would like to ask about my son’s education and career. right now he is writing his 12th board exams (PCMC in Mangalore) and he will write Karnataka State entrance exams also KCET. Please advise for his future which courses / degrees will be helpful to have a secured career. He is confused whether he should take Electronic and Communication or got for Software engineer with BE. Ans: Santosh, at AEEE rank 65,457, getting CSE or CSE-AI at Amritapuri at around ?4 lakh/year is highly unlikely. Amrita confirms that B.Tech admission is through AEEE/JEE, with scholarship fee slabs 1–4 based on exam performance, and its 2026 fee PDF shows differential annual fees by branch/campus.

Based on available 2025 trend data, Amritapuri CSE/CSE-specialisation usually needs much better ranks, roughly within the lower thousands, not 65k. Backup options are to try Amrita mop-up only for lower-demand branches and keep VIT-AP/Bhopal, and other 4-5 backup options of private colleges as safer CSE/AI backups. My daughter got 51100 in JEE mains and 10214 in VIT.. What are the chances of getting CSE in NIT and VIT

Ans: Pankaj Sir, With JEE Main CRL 51,100 (General Female), CSE in NITs is very unlikely through JoSAA because open-seat ranks use CRL and NIT CSE usually closes much earlier. Even the female quota may not stretch to this level for CSE in regular rounds. She may try CSAB for newer NIT/IIIT/GFTI lower-demand branches, but for CSE/IT, chances are weak. With VITEEE rank 10,214, chances are much better in VIT. VIT Vellore CSE Core may be difficult in lower fee categories, but CSE specialisations at Vellore/Chennai may be possible in higher categories; VIT-AP/Bhopal CSE/AI/DS should be realistic. VIT has separate fee categories and campuses, including Vellore, Chennai, AP and Bhopal.

The best strategy is to prefer VIT Chennai/Vellore CSE-specialisation, keep VIT-AP/Bhopal CSE as a strong backup, and use JoSAA/CSAB mainly for ECE/EEE/Mechanical options. All the Best for Your Daughter's Prosperous Future!

Ans: Biotechnology at VIT Vellore in Phase 4 seems to be challenging. However, she has a chance in VIT Bhopal/AP Biotechnology (even in lower categories/late rounds), and also other allied branches like Bioinformatics/Health Sciences.

Sir I got 99.84 percentile or 2295 rank in jee mains, however I am completely out of sync with branches and colleges. Althought I have interest in aerospace industry, what other options in terms of colleges and branches exceot cse can I look towards

Ans: You can target top NITs/IIITs (CS/ECE, etc.) and also core engineering at IITs if your rank holds. For aerospace, you can safely choose Aerospace/Mechanical/Engineering Physics at top IITs or strong NITs like Trichy/Surathkal/Warangal. First, decide what you want to become in the future. Don't choose the branch/college you are getting just because you have a high score of 99.84. Value your interest first and then choose the college with complete details.

Sir my Daughter got 96.04 percentile in JEE Mains general category from Gujarat state and now she is going to give his JEE Advanced. She has already given GUJCET (79.9 percentile, CBSE board -90%), MHTCET (result awaited), AEEE (Rank 1547), MET (Manipal) with 162 marks out of 240 and going to give 2nd attempt, BITSAT first attempt 180 marks and going to give 2nd attempt. And going to give CUET as well. He has got a mail that from Manipal campus for the councelling based on JEE Mains score of which last date is 17th of May and seat allotment would on 18 th of May .They are asking to pay the first installment of 2, 90, 000 before 22 nd of May and final installment by 29th of May if selected in CS based on merit with counselling fees 10000 need to pay. My daughter wants to take CS .Sir my question is we are confused whether to keep or let go of this selection process in Manipal campus as Advanced results would come only in the first week of June and other results are awaited .Please Guide

Ans: Hello to be honest in all aspect
Being open category at this percentile in JEE main it would be extremely difficult to get CSE in a decent college through JOSAA or CSAB. CSE at IITs is highly competitive for open category. In advanced if she gets AIR under 13K then there is chance for CSE at IITs.
In BITS CSE closes around 235 Marks
Manipal can be a good choice. you can keep it as a backup option.

I recently received my CBSE Class 12 results and unfortunately got an RT (Repeat Theory) in two of my core subjects, Maths and Chemistry. Since I had six subjects in total, passing just one compartment exam this year will technically give me a "Pass" status on my report card and thats going to be maths essential for further studies. However, because CBSE only allows us to take one compartment exam right now, I will have to wait until next year to give the Chemistry exam through improvement. My plan is to use this upcoming year to clear that remaining subject while also preparing for JEE and CUET. I wanted to get your advice on how the registration process works for these competitive exams given my situation. Specifically, is it possible for me to register and appear for JEE and CUET next year before my final board marks come out, as long as I have the results in hand before counseling begins? I also wanted to ask how I should state my qualification status on those application forms

Ans: Here is a pointwise reply to your question:
(1) You can appear for JEE Main and CUET next year, even if your final improvement result is pending at the time of registration.
(2) For both exams, select “appearing in Class 12” or “passed/passing year (as applicable)” based on what the form asks at that time. Later, ensure you become a 12th pass with the required subjects (PCM) before JoSAA/CUET counselling/seat allotment.
(3) Important: For JEE/JoSAA eligibility, what matters is Final pass status + Required Subjects + 75% (or top 20 percentile if applicable) at the time of admission, not the status at form filling.
Finally, you are safe to apply, but ensure you clear Maths + Chemistry and meet board eligibility before counselling/document verification.

Sir last year I was not able to get 75% so this year again I gave improvement almost expected to get 80% but bad luck this OSM checking destoryed me and again I got 68% but This year I also gave exam from MP Board as a fresh addmission and there I scored 81% so elegible for jossa and csab but problem is in JEE Mains application form I entered of CBSE school detail(I was expecting more but didnt get) during counselling if will upload the marksheet and tc of MP board any problem can come...??please help me And sir other question is I belong to sc caste but in my school tc its written general and in jee application form i have filled with sc only in counselling any problem can come with this issue also will jossa will blacklist me..?

Ans: Here is a pointwise reply to your query:
(1) You will not be blacklisted, but you must be careful during document verification.
(2) If your MP Board marksheet (81%) is valid and recognized, JoSAA will accept it for eligibility even if CBSE details were entered earlier, provided you upload the correct qualifying exam documents; however, mismatched board details may require a correction or explanation during verification.
(3) For caste: if you claim SC in JoSAA but your TC shows “General”, it is not a problem by itself; what matters is a valid SC caste certificate from a competent authority; the TC is not the deciding
Finally: Your eligibility is safe. Ensure (a) correct 12th marksheet upload and (b) a valid SC certificate; then you will NOT face a blacklisting risk, only a possible query or clarification.

However, please read the brochure very carefully for further clarification and details.
