Hi sir. My daughter gave NEET exam this year and is scoring 540. But being from general category she won’t get mbbs govt colleges. But now she is planing to prepare for IMAT which is for admission to medicine courses in Italy. So she should do BDS from India or opt to go for mbbs in Italy through IMAT exam ? Thanks.

Ans: Hello,

First and foremost, thank you for getting in touch with us. I am happy to hear that your daughter appeared for NEET exam this year. Concerning your question as to whether your daughter should pursue Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from India or opt to go for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in Italy through IMAT exam, I would like to tell you that deciding between pursuing a BDS degree in India or attempting for an MBBS in Italy via the IMAT exam entails a number of factors. If your daughter is interested in becoming a doctor and is willing to study overseas, then preparing for and taking the International Medical Admissions Test (IMAT) could be a good choice. I would like to tell you that Italian medical schools are renowned for providing top-notch instruction and offer an MBBS degree that is internationally recognized, sometimes at a lower cost than private medical colleges in India. Moreover, studying in Italy can offer global exposure and opportunities.

Nevertheless, if your daughter intends staying in India and obtaining a degree in a familiar setting, then pursuing BDS could be a viable option. Dentistry is a renowned profession with promising employment opportunities. Finally, I would like to tell you that your daughter’s long-term professional objectives, willingness to adjust to a new country, as well as her enthusiasm in either field, should all be taken into account while making this decision. In order to make an educated choice, I would also suggest that she gets in touch with academic counselors and takes into account both the present and long-term effects.
