My child is studying class 10 in kv school. For jee preparation, shall i put in integrated school for class 11 or continue the same school with separate coaching classes?

Ans: Depends upon some factors which you will have to take into consideration (1) Distance between your Home & Integrated School. If the travel time is less than 20-25 minutes or 5 kms (whichever is lower), can go for Integrated Option. (2) Integrated School has tie-up with which Coaching Institute? Timings of each Coaching Institute in School differs from one another. Check whether the timings will be suitable for your child and what time your child will be able to reach home? (3) Timings of Integrated School & whether on Saturdays also classes will be held till evening? If classes are held only half-day, then OK. If held till evening on Saturdays also, not advisable as your child will get stressed and can't/will not get time to study at home (4) Pressure your child can bear if put in Integrated School & your Son's academic performance. If the child is self-motivated, dedicated & academic performance has been good, both will work out (Integrated & Separate Coaching Class) (5) Distance between your Home & Coaching Classes for weekday & weekend classes. If it is less than 5 kms or the travel time is less than 20-minutes, you can prefer Weekday or Weekend classes. However, please make sure that your child's school timing should not clash with the timings of Coaching Classes. Value Addition Information: Please avoid relying only on JEE. Instead, make your child appears in 5-7 Entrance Exams to have multiple options to choose the most suitable one. All the BEST for Your Child's Bright Future.

Hi Sir, My son studies in 8th grade in an IGCSE board school in Mumbai. He is keen to pursue Engineering and crack JEE exams. I want him to start preparing for it early and already motivating him to study syllabus of CBSE Maths not covered in IGCSE. He shows great excitement in the same and does it willingly. I shall also do the same for Science. My queries are as below. What do I do after his 10th boards? Should I ask him pursue AS and A boards or enrol him to an academy for an integrated study of 11th and 12th + JEE? I am keen to have private tutors for JEE studies. Will this be better than academy coaching? Should I enrol him in a Junior college for 11th and 12th and also ask him to prepare for JEE simultaneously? Thanks, Mehul
Ans: Hello Mehul. Your son is in 8th std. It is good to hear that he is doing good in his studies that too willingly. As he is in 8th std, it would be better to join him for 3 years Foundation Course for IIT-JEE (8th + 9th + 10th). Search these coaching institutes near by you if possible. Else you can purchase the excellent material provided by Matrushri Institute, Hyderabad. The material provided by this institute is excellent. Purchase the material, and search private tutors to complete the syllabus. After completing this course, Your son will be quite comfortable to face JEE syllabus. You decide about the JEE coaching institute only after his 10th examination. You better enroll his name In a Jr. College and then join best coaching center available near by your home.

Ans: Mehul Sir,

Thoroughly read your question Sir. Here-below are some Options / Important Suggestions & Why?:

Option-1

After he finishes his 8th Standard, you can get admission for him into any CBSE-School (or) Maharashtra State Board School which also has an integrated Program.

As far as I know, there are very less number of CBSE Schools. If you can get into any CBSE School, well and good.

If he joins any State Board Integrated School from the 9th itself, it is highly recommended to thoroughly go through the NCERT Books of 9th to 12th Standards which is most important for JEE preparation.

It is preferable to start early for JEE (from 9th standard to cover NCERT basic concepts), but not mandatory.

Option-2

If you decide NOT to discontinue from IGCSE till 10th standard, you will have to put him in any JEE-Integrated School for 11th/12th Standard.

However, it is advisable to go through the NCERT books of 9th/10th, whenever time permits for your son as the quantity of subjects/syllabus of IGCSE will be more, compared to CBSE.

Option-3

As you prefer Home Tutors, please note, highly experienced Home Tutors (especially for JEE-Advanced preparation) charge on hourly-basis and depending upon the subject (for example, tuition fee for Maths will be higher, compared to Physics & Chemistry).

Please choose the best option, suitable for you/for your son out of the above 3-options.

Some other value-added tips:

1) Please give more importance to Maths, followed by Physics, as JEE Rank is allotted on the basis of highest marks in Maths.
2) If you prefer an Integrated Program, make sure the School/Integrated Class is not too far from your home. Travel consumes/wastes lot of your valuable time.
3) For other PRACTICAL Strategies / Steps / Tips, please go through some of my answers below, related to JEE preparation.

All the BEST for Your Son's Bright Future.

My kid is targeting JEE 2027, have enrolled in a local coaching institute and taken admission in a CBSE school integrated with the institute, where attending regular school is not required, only one has to go for practicals for 10-12 days before boards. Concerns with coaching+integrated model: 1. CBSE may take some action leading to disruption of final board eligibilty. 2. Board lectures conducted by coaching institute are not up to the mark 3. Lack of exposure to school environment, sports and extra curricular activities and social interactions. 4. Coaching gives time for self study but due to variable timing of classes it is difficult to get into a routine. 5. If 2 years time and money is invested in coaching then pressure to get a good rank is tremendous 6. Obtaining Letter of recommendations may be. A problem if I want to study aboard. Issue with school: 1. Teachers only focus on the board syllabus and no help for JEE 2. Sports and other activities are there but they may consume more time also, leaving very less time for JEE prep 3. School environment like peers may not be that focussed on JEE hence chances for getting distracted is higher 4. Near Mains 1st attempt school may called for classes/ practicals. 5. Leaving coaching for regular school is not considered a good idea as may lose all the advantages like structured guidance and good teachers(IITians). 6. Self study materials (ref books, videos tutorials, online coaching etc) are too many and choosing the most suitable one is very difficult Note: My kid does not want to take a coaching after school as it will become too hectic, leaving no time for self study and also does not want to take a drop year after 12th. Please guide what is the best option or any other way available.
Ans: Your concerns are very valid and reflect the common dilemma many parents face when balancing JEE preparation with school requirements. The coaching plus integrated school model provides focused JEE preparation, structured guidance, and more self-study time, but it also involves risks like limited school exposure, weaker board preparation, lack of extracurricular activities, and challenges such as LORs (Letters of Recommendation) if studying abroad is considered. Conversely, regular school ensures proper CBSE coverage, sports, activities, and a social environment, but it may require more time, dilute JEE focus, and lead to distractions. Since your child is clear about not wanting after-school coaching or a drop year, the integrated model with strong self-discipline, periodic revision of the board syllabus, and some planned extracurricular activities appears more aligned with the JEE goal. To manage risks, maintain communication with the school about board eligibility, ensure consistent board preparation from NCERT, and supplement missing exposure, like sports or peer interaction, in controlled ways outside of school. This approach allows your child to stay on track for JEE while minimizing disruptions. Be relaxed and be with your kid always. If preparation is done in the right way, there is no need to take a drop year.

Good luck.
