Mam I am an 8th STD icse board student and need to select subject for boards now...I am weak in maths and science so I am selecting commerce but in combination do I take economics or commercial activities...can u guide for future what will be good to score good percentage in 10th?

Ans: Hello! It's okay to not be the best at all, I would recommend you taking economics. Applicability of economics as a subject under commerce is pretty vast & can help you in the future. The courses that you can explore in degrees could be a BCom, BBA that also open up managerial opportunities for you. I won't be able to comment on what is a good % in 10th but I would recommend you to look at colleges that you would like to take admission in.

Hi sir, my son is studying in 10th standard from a school in Bangalore, he is interested in business management and finance but has confusion whether to take commerce or science beacause commerce as a subject gives limited choices after 12th.....plz suggest how to choose the subjects in 11th standard? Also how about choosing PCM with economics Vs PCM with computer science? Thank u .
Ans: Since your son is already interested in business management and finance, commerce is the natural choice because it provides a strong foundation in accounting, economics, and business studies, which are directly relevant for careers like BBA, MBA, CA, CFA, or finance-related fields. However, it is true that science (PCM) offers more options, especially for technical or professional courses like engineering, data science, or even economics at a higher level. If he is genuinely attracted to finance and management, commerce with maths would be the best fit. On the other hand, if he wants a balance between technical and business options, PCM with economics is a smart combination, as it allows him to pursue management, finance, or economics later, while still keeping technical career paths open. PCM with computer science is more suitable if he has an interest in technology or wants a backup in IT/engineering. The final decision should depend on whether he values broader career flexibility (science) or focused preparation for management/finance (commerce).

Good luck.

Career
Sir , I am interested in taking admission at thapar , Patiala. Unfortunately, based on my marks, Computer Science may not be possible, but I still have options like ECE, Electrical, and VLSI. I am currently very confused because my priority is long-term career opportunities rather than existing interest, since I honestly don’t have enough exposure to any branch yet. I believe I can develop interest after learning the field properly. Could you please guide me from a practical career perspective: * Which branch currently has better placement opportunities and job security? * Which field has better scope in government exams/jobs and private sector too * Which branch offers better opportunities abroad in the future? * Which branch has stronger growth in the private sector over the next 5–10 years? * Between ECE, Electrical, and VLSI, which would you personally recommend for someone prioritizing career opportunities, flexibility, and future scope?
Ans: For long-term career growth, flexibility, placements, higher studies and future tech opportunities, Prefer Thapar ECE > VLSI > Electrical because ECE keeps both software and electronics careers open, has strong private-sector growth (chips, embedded systems, telecom, AI hardware), good abroad/MS opportunities, decent government-job eligibility, and usually better placement flexibility than pure Electrical, while VLSI is highly promising but more specialized and somewhat dependent on semiconductor industry growth. However, it is highly recommended to give importance to your basic interests. Without interest, if you will choose a branch and college for a brand name, the output will be zero. Be careful about your career plan. Give value to your interest only.

Good luck.
